About EMN… The European Microfinance Network (EMN) was created in 2003 and currently has 94 members in 21 European countries. The mission of EMN is to promote microfinance as a tool to fight social and economic exclusion and to promote microentrepreneurship and self-employment. EMN supports its members through: • Capacity building activities • Networking and information exchange • Advocacy within the EU and national governments
About JASMINE… JASMINE (Joint Action to Support Microfinance Institutions in Europe) was created in 2007 and is a joint initiative of the European Commission, the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the European Investment Fund (EIF) JASMINE’s principal objectives are to: - enhance the capacity of non-bank micro-credit providers/micro- finance institutions - help them to become sustainable and viable operators in the micro- credit market. JASMINE provide technical assistance to selected MFI through: - Institutional assessment/rating - Tailor made training to the staff and management - Microfinance Development Services (workshops and Helpdesk)
About Jasmine MDS … EMN has been chosen to implement the JASMINE ‘Microfinance Development Services’ from July 2011 to December 2012. Thematic workshops By the end of 2012 EMN will organize at least eight specialized workshops to provide information about, and encourage good practice on microfinance in the European Union. Helpdesk EMN manage a permanent online help-desk - the ‘JASMINE HelpDesk ’ - open to all - individuals, micro enterprises and organizations asking for more information on microfinance in the EU.
Specialised microcredit workshops 2012 • The role of capacity building in the development of a solid EU microfinance industry – 20/03, Days of transfer DMI (Deutsche Mikrofinanz Institut), Offenbach, Germany; • Downscaling into microfinance by banks - 12/04, International conference on microfinance, Palermo, Italy; • Measuring and managing social performance – 05/07, Thematic workshops FGDA, Milan, Italy; • Public - Private Partnership (PPP) models in Microfinance; • Accessing EU programs available for microfinance; • Promotion of the European Code of Good Conduct and labelling of EU MFIs; • Importance of local currency lending; • Is there an ideal business model for MFIs in the EU?
Online e-learning platform „ moodle “ Following each workshop, participants have the opportunity to continue learning about the subject through an online e-learning platform developed by EMN • retrieve documents electronically • ask questions of the workshop leader for a month after the workshop has been delivered • conduct a dialogue with the other workshop participants
