  1. - The goals of the early integration pathfinder exercises are • Overall goal: Ensure that when different instruments, in particular AuxTel, ComCam and Full Camera are installed on the summit TCS/OCS/DM/CCS/DAQ all work as expected - Promote interaction between all principal subsystem control software - Perform interface testing - Clarify and solidify those interfaces - Identify areas of deficiency and address those issues - Exercises build on the work of previous ones - Test early, test often! - A number of pathfinder exercises have been performed over the past 2 years, with more upcoming • Valuable lessons have been learned in the process, and will likely continue to be learned in the future

  2. - 1-Visit Night Control Only (Oct 9-10, 2017 @ NCSA) - DM Header Service Capability Test (Dec 12, 2017 @ Tucson) - DAQ Hardware to Support Wavefront/Guider Testing (Feb 13-14, 2018 @ Tucson) - DAQ to DM Files (Mar 1, 2018 @ Tucson) - 1-Visit Night with Images AuxTel (April 3-4, 2018 @ NCSA) - Manual Control of Multiple Physical Devices on AuxTel (June 7, 2018 @ Tucson) - FITS File Assembly at NCSA (June 14, 2018 @ NCSA) - ACCS MCM/OCS Bridge for Spectrograph Integration Test (July 17-19, 2018 @ Tucson)

  3. - Primary goal is to test software interoperability, this is aided and in some cases requires that we use the same/similar IT setup as expected on summit • A number of areas of overlap have already been identified and are being worked on - Need for common OS • Centos7 has been adopted as the standard baseline operating system, and is being used for all pathfinder activities. - Need for common installation methodology • Puppet has been selected as the software installation tool, - Goal is to use puppet for all software installs during pathfinder exercises - Need for common identity management and group definitions • Work is ongoing in partnership with NCSA to get IDM installed in Tucson using puppet - Need for common documentation and issue tracking tools • We are already using JIRA, Confluence and Magic Draw, others to follow -

  4. - Additional technologies we expect to test in future • Configuration management - Ensuring we know which versions of software from different subsystems will interoperate - Simulation environments for testing software prior to installation on summit - Automatic testing and reporting tools • Network infrastructure (IP address, virtual networks, summit/base inter-operability) • Shared file systems • Remote access technologies and cyber security - VPN, ssh, VNC (like) technologies - Access control (perhaps basd on location) • PTP time standard distribution
