The Global Argon Program for Dark Matter • 12 nations: • 68 institutes Brasil, Canada, China, France, Greece, Italy, Poland, Romania, • 350 researchers Spain, Switzerland, UK, USA
The Dark matter puzzle: just 5% of the universe shines. The key to start understanding the non-shining part could be underground: - Underground laboratories: Use of underground depleted Argon ( 39 Ar almost free) from Colorado mines URANIA project - Further Argon purification using long distillation columns ARIA project - But the most important key is the coalescence of a large community into a single effort.
a) Depleted Argon procurement and purification URANIA (Argon extraction) - CORTEZ (Colorado, USA) ARIA (Argon purification) : CERN leak test ARIA: Seruci, Sardinia (Italy) Isotopic separation by cryogenic distillation

b) LAr detectors The Liquid Argon community has recently coalesced into a Global Argon Dark Matter Collaboration, with the goal of constructing and operating a 300 tonne argon detector allowing a kilotonne-year exposure for a dark matter search DS – 50 @LNGS MiniClean @ SNOLAB DEAP3600 @SNOLAB LAr CERN neutrino platform Time Taking data @ LNGS, SNOLAB DS – 20k Approved by NFS, INFN, LNGS-SC LAr – 300 t ~ 215 M$ Need for a reliable control

A game we have to play in several places CANFRANC CERN SNOLAB ARIA LNGS : DarkSide URANIA (Kinder Morgan)
Where we are ? - A strong collaboration coalesced into a single effort; - Several laboratories (LNGS, SNOLAB, Canfranc) supported this project; CERN will review the REC application at the beginning of 2018; - Several funding agencies strongly supported this effort; - Regional funding supported it, attracted by the solid spin-off too; - To turn this effort into a success we need adequate project managing tools
Project Control System we should be ready to manage events requiring prompt program re-organization; Need for a detailed project monitoring; Efficient tracking of the progress of any sub-project; Need to handle a WBS including cross relations between costs, man power, deliverables, facilities, responsibilities, etc.; Microsoft Excel interface appreciated; Deliverable-oriented tools look attractive and probably adequate. We believe APT-EVM, used to manage the LHC machine project could be a very good candidate
In 1931 a huge project was managed and successfully finalized in just 14 months using pen and paper, but smart Project Management tools may help anyway
