The Compare and Contrast of the two Movies and the Comments of them. By Cailyn Eveland and Dylan Shaffer
Introduction There are many different versions of A Christmas Carol. They are all different, sound, lighting, like the book, and so are the comments. The Muppets use a lighter tone, but keep the overall meaning. The 1984 version is more serious and has a darker tone. The comments can also have a different mood and tone to them. When we did our research we found out a lot of things. Like which movie more people like. How are they different. How much difference can be in two movies of the exact same thing.
George C. Scott/ 1984 The 1984 version of A Christmas Carol is a pretty serious movie that shows how the Industrial revolution affected the population of London,England during the time of Christmas. It also shows how a powerful and feared businessmen is changed through the short time period and is changed to a mench and a good citizen.
Muppets/ 1992 The muppets has a lighter tone to it. Even though it still bring the meaning across. The charters are all played by muppets except for Scrooge. That is kind of funny. It takes place in the Industrial revolution . His two parters Marly and Marly are dead. Lastly, he is mean and all he cares is about money.
Similarities For one of the similarities of the movies is that they both have have basically the same plot, and they both show how Scrooge changes over the period of his life in a short amount of time. It shows how he changes from a no good ,penny pinching, monster to a mench or good citizen. Another similarity, is that both of the movie settings were both in the same time period and in the same locations, the industrial revolution, in London,England. Also for similarity, it's that both of the films were produced in the late 1900's, the one that our teams watched the 1984 version, and the muppets version that I watched was in 1992.
Differences One difference is that the tone was totally different, like in the the first Christmas carol that we watched, the tone was pretty scary for most of the movie and in the muppets movie the tone was mostly merry and happy unlike the first one that we watched. Another difference was in the change of characters in the movie. In the muppets version most of the main characters were muppets and not humans, and in the 1984 version all the characters were humans and there were no muppets insight. Also for differences was that Charles Dickens wasn’t played by anyone in the 1984 version, but in the muppets version Ganso acted like if he was Charles Dickens. Last difference, is that the movies have way different genres, like the muppets version is meant to be a comedy because for me the movie is really funny and not scary at all. It's kind of like the Jimmy Fallon talk show. The other movie version the one that we watched at school was a drama. It's kind of like Jaws the movies when it's scary, with all the scary parts in the movies version that our team watched.
Comments on the Muppets As I did my research I realized that although this version is off of the story line, many people still love this version. It helps make kids see what can happen if you are mean to people and do not show compassion. You can see what other people think of you. I went onto Amazon and looked up customer comments and I found a lot of different opinions. Some people loved the version and some people did not, so I copy and pasted some comments. “This version is particularly noteworthy because it combines two beloved pop-culture icons: Dickens' story and the Jim Henson Muppets.” “In fact, I am not currently aware of any Christmas video that touches me more than this outing by the Muppets, not even my other two favorites "It's a Wonderful Life" and "A Charlie Brown Christmas." Yes, it is directed to an extent toward children, but it is also directed toward the child in each of us, and in this it succeeds 100 percent. In fact, being an adult is definitely a plus in catching some of the humor.”
Comments on George C. Scott Many people love the muppets, yet some think that the George C. Scott one is better. The George C. Scott one is aimed to be direct towards adults to tell a story about a man that changed. The George C. Scott one is also more like the book then you will think. Brilliant from start to finish. The character is named Scrooge, but it's really about you.” “A good old Christmas story that brings home the true feeling of Christmas and sharing at this time.” “Of the movies I have seen done on Scrooge, this is the best! The acting was superb and it immediately drew you into the story. It holds you in suspense with a sigh of gratitude and relief at the end of the story...here it holds out hope with a real perspective on what can happen in life...whether for the better or the worse.”
Similarities and Differences As I did my research I saw many different ideas that people had about the movie. I mostly saw good reviews that were about the story plot line. The Muppets, I saw most people recommend for families with younger kids. Most people think that the George C. Scott one would be better for older kids and adults. Yet some adults think that the muppets are fun and an enjoying movie to watch, because it is for younger kids. Some people think that people should show the George C. Scott version to kids so they get the full impacted about the story.
