  3. 2 Chronicles 7:12-18 (NIV) 12 the L ORD appeared to Solomon at night and said: “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself as a temple for sacrifices. 13 “When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, 14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 15 Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place. 16 I have chosen and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there. 17 “As for you, if you walk before me faithfully as David your father did, and do all I command, and observe my decrees and laws, 18 I will establish your royal throne, as I covenanted with David your father when I said, ‘You shall never fail to have a successor to rule over Israel.’

  4. Matthew 12:22-30 (NIV) 22 Then they brought Jesus a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see. 23 All the people were astonished and said, “Could this be the Son of David?” 24 But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons.” 25 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. 26 If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? 27 And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. 28 But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. 29 “Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man’s house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can plunder his house. 30 “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.

  6. Robert E. Stubbs, “Bob,” 99, of Eaton, and formerly of Gratis, died Nov. 11, 2015, in Eaton, Ohio. He and his wife, Helen, had been married 69 years. He was born in Butler County on Aug. 8, 1916 to Clifford and Clara (Roberts) Stubbs. Bob was a birthright member of the West Elkton Friends Meeting, the great great great great grandson of the Lorenzo Stubbs who came up from Georgia in 1803 to help found the meeting and provide a place for other Quakers to live without having to interact with slave trading. His great great grandfather was part of the Talbert and Stubbs Buggy Factory that helped to make double-bottomed wagons for the Underground Railroad. Until he became ill in August of 2015 from simply cleaning out a freezer, Bob and Helen attended almost every Sunday, and participated in Sunday School and other activities of the meeting. His quiet presence and steadfast faith are missed by all.

  7. Jesse E. Foutz Age 94, formerly of Seven Mile, died January 1, 2016. He was born in Butler County, Ohio on October 20, 1921 the son of Henry and Cora (Jones) Foutz. He was a 1939 graduate of Seven Mile High School. Jesse married Dorothy Kinkaid on September 15, 1942 in Butler County and she preceded him in death in 2004. His mother’s family (great grandfather’s family) were active in the Underground Railroad and helped to create the passage from West Elkton to Canada. Jesse was a lifelong member of West Elkton Friends Meeting. His memorial service reflected how he let his life preach in many small and meaningful ways, taking time with the neighborhood children teaching them to read and to play ball, helping out friends who were in jams, giving assistance to people at his work, and being a memorable figure for his children to imitate.

  8. Wapella Carver May 8, 1934 - August 28, 2016 Wapella was born in Orient Hill, WV. She retired from Middletown Regional Hospital as a supervisor of the junior volunteers, and also volunteered for 25 years with Middletown Regional/Atrium Medical Center. Her life was about others. She and her husband Charles came to West Elkton Friends by way of Ken Story in the early 1980’s. She was a very active member of West Elkton Friends Meeting, serving on Ministry and Oversight, volunteering to feed the homeless through SHALOM ministries, and carrying out the card ministry through the meeting. She rarely missed a Sunday except to visit relatives, and even when ill, participated fully. She died during open worship as we prayed with the family, part of the meeting by her side with her family. Her husband, Charles and she were married almost 60 years. He and their daughter, Karen, still attend regularly. Her presence was peaceful and calm, straight forward and loving, and always about the Love of God. We are still grieving heavily our loss.

  9. Roy J. Ickes, age 87 of Middletown passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2016 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born February 11, 1929. Roy was not a member of West Elkton Friends, but by being an active father of a member, Leanne Malcolm, and the grandfather and “uncle” to many of the young adults in the meeting, he played a very significant role in the meeting and its heart for people. Other than family gatherings at the meeting, in which he and his wife, Pat, played a significant role, Roy & Pat Ickes were considered by all to be the heart and soul of SHALOM ministries in which West Elkton Friends participated twice a year. Roy worked with SHALOM since its inception in 2003 and came in 2014 to preach at West Elkton about the ministry and how it started. He and his wife dedicated much of their lives to serving the homeless and less fortunate of Middletown and the surrounding area.

  10. How Can I Keep from Singing

  11. Hymn #100 Seek Ye First I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. 1 Corinthians 3:6

  12. 2 Timothy 2:1-4 (NIV) You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. 3 Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer. Called to Peace and Equality Open Worship

  13. When all hearts and minds are clear, we will give the right hand of fellowship to one another. Our Closing Hymn is the first verse of Hymn #332 and will also be the blessing for our food.
