2.1 Sustainability Thailand imports an average 700,000 tons of whole round tuna annually which is approximately 15 % of global catch. Thai tuna industry’s position towards the resolution of IUU issues based on the “ 4 Principles ” as follows. 1. Academic principles and scientific data 2. Legal framework 3. Transparency 4. Constructive cooperation Thai tuna industry reaffirms to operate businesses in a transparent manner along the line of the international principles upheld in UNCLOS 1982 , the FAO’s Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries, UNSDG 14 (the Sustainable Development Goals: SDGs-Life Below Water), RFMOs and the Thai Royal Ordinance on Fisheries,B.E.2017

2.3 Supporting Human Rights Protection TTIA recognizes the important of the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights: Implementing the United Nations “Protect, Respect and Remedy” Framework. We work with multi various stakeholders and promote social dialogue between employers and employees through the following approaches: Welfare Committee Mechanism, Social Dialogue Workshop and Good Labor Practice. UN Working Group visit Thailand during 26 March – 4 April 2018. they stated to TTIA that…We welcome the decisive actions taken by the Government introducing registration of all commercial fishing vessels, new systems of port-in and port-out controls and enhanced labour inspections and increased fines for non-compliance with labour laws and fisheries laws. Action was also taken by industry associations, led by TTIA to adopt Code of Conduct on ethical labour practice as a requirement for TTIA membership, including commitment to comply supplier’s standards. Government agencies and business associations have also open up avenues for consultations with trade unions and associations of migrant workers…. 18
