Feeling Safe Recently Ms Lasiotis attended a meeting in which the BAD Youth Forum had presented that some students in the borough do not feel safe in their schools. We wanted to know how safe students feel at Eastbury. The school council fed back a couple more points - Identified issues with some water fountains which can cause a safety problem. - It was felt that generally bullying is dealt with well at school - The importance of staff who students feel able to talk to, who can help them manage and concerns which may affects their behaviour and well-being We discuss the importance of reporting instances of anti-social behaviour with staff. Students should not feel worried about doing this. Anti-social behaviour is not tolerated in school. Reps will be encouraging their tutor groups to use the Confide button if they witness anti-social behaviour in school so it can be dealt with quickly.
KS3 and 4 mtg feedback Changing rooms- Concerns about ventilation and heating were fed back to Mr Dickson and Ms Collins who will look into this. Work had been done to improve this in the summer so they end to find out why this isn’t working. Printing – Mr Dickson is going to ask a member of the network team to come to a future council meeting to see what can be done to address this. KS4 raised particular concerns about having enough credit for some of their subjects. Lunch activities and study space – KS4 were pleased to see the library opened however have also requested further space with computers to study. We also discussed the removal of the hoops and lack of outdoor activities for pupils to get involved in. Mr Dickson was going to look into the use of other areas at break times.
KS3 and 4 mtg feedback Library – Good News- the school have opened the library which at the moment is currently available to all students at breaks and after school and is staffed by student librarians. The school council suggested some ideas to ensure that students who need to do work are given priority. The library will become more of an area for quiet study. Coats in school – A request was made from a tutor group for students to be allowed to wear coats in school. Coats are not worn in school, just as they aren’t in the workplace. Mr Dickson and Ms Collins did ask for students to encourage staff toe mail them if they have any problems with heating in their room. Students and staff are also being encouraged to keep doors shut in order to conserve heat as the weather becomes colder.
