Local Authority Requirements � Localism Bill received Royal Assent in November 2011 � Section on Tenancy Strategy effective in January 2012 � Tenancy Strategy must be in place by January 2013
Localism Bill � A local housing authority in England must prepare and publish a strategy (a ‘tenancy strategy’) setting out matters to which the registered providers of social housing in its district are to have regard in formulating policies relating to: � Type of tenancies that are granted � Circumstances in which a particular kind of tenancy is granted � Length of tenancies granted � Circumstances in which a further tenancy will be granted
Local Authority Approach � Make clear what we want to achieve � Provide direction to Registered Providers � Share local intelligence with partners � Ensure customers know what is on offer � Manage the effect of changes
