T enSquare Results ▪ T enSquare’s team has shown dramatic results in public charter schools for almost fjfteen years, starting with the Thurgood Marshall Academy Public Charter School: – T enSquare Managing Member, Josh Kern, co-founded and served as Executive Director of Thurgood Marshall Academy Public Charter High School (TMA) from 2000 until 2011. Katie Herman, T enSquare principal and head of the school improvement practice, served as a senior leader of TMA from 2001 - 2008, and then served on the Board of Trustees until 2014. – TMA is now among the highest performing, open enrollment public high schools (district and charter) in the District of Columbia. – Alexandra Pardo continues the success at TMA. 5 T enSquare York Presentation | 8/13/2014

Doar Jr. PCS ▪ Partnership years: July to June 2014 ▪ Strategic advisor to Executive Director in SY 12; Recruited new teachers and administrators in SY 12 &13; and then led comprehensive turnaround initiative in SY 14 ▪ Led an intensive school restructuring efgort from January through June 2014. State profjciency increased by almost 12% in math, and although the composite score in ELA dipped by 1.5%, profjciency increased in four out of WEDJ Public Charter School six of the tested grades. Building Community Partnership ▪ Community partnership and involvement have been critical to our success. ▪ We plan to launch a concerted efgort to partner with key stakeholders, such as community organizations, colleges and universities, local businesses, foundations and elected offjcials. ▪ Build alliances prior to starting in 2015-16. ▪ The input and support of the community is essential to the success of this proposal and the schools in this district.   18. Closing  York is starting perhaps the most critically important efgort to revitalize its schools and community it has ever undertaken. There could be nothing more important to the families in the community, the local economy and most importantly, the lives of the children who are born and raised in York.  T enSquare exists to address the problems plaguing education in under resourced schools and communities so all children have a real chance at achieving lifelong success.  T enSquare is uniquely qualifjed to take over and turnaround the schools in York.
