Supervisors’ Professional Learning Community Zoom Session #3 - May 6, 2020 AGENDA: - Checking in with good news stories - Announcements & community updates - "Fostering Inclusion & Well- Being” with Natalie Busato - "Points to Ponder” (breakout groups) The Supervisors’ Professional Learning Community is an opportunity for program leaders to come together to exchange ideas, contribute perspectives, ask questions, and make meaning of new ideas, information, and resources. Participants will engage in a facilitated dialogue model in small groups thinking through the lens of the Supervisor as a pedagogical leader for their team.

  2. Supervisors’ Professional Learning Community Agreements & Zoom Etiquette The Supervisors’ Learning Community brings leaders together as a community of learners. As a community, we have committed to a model of learning that is emergent and recognizes the value of learning together in the context of our role as leaders. We believe we are each strengthened by our connections and relationships within the community. We have committed to the process of maintaining, reviewing, and refining a set of agreements that have been developed by the learning community. The following “ways of being” establish a shared understanding amongst all participants and allows us to engage in ongoing reflection of the practices we wish to see within our PLC. 6. Ruth shared this message from the HWCDSB: As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic , we have had to make changes to our intake process. ● The process begins with the school Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT) contacting the parent(s) of the child. The purpose of this call is to explain the new process and review information on the Tell Us About Your Child form that may have changed since completion of the form. Parents will have to opportunity to ask questions and voice concerns about their child starting school. A Speech Language Pathologist will also contact the parent to speak about their child's communication. The next stage involves a review of documentation provided by the child's service providers with consent of parents, including Community Living Hamilton and Ron Joyce Children's Health Centre. Reports are reviewed by the SERT, school Principal, school Speech Language Pathologist, and Central Resource Teacher. This review allows us to make decisions about the level of support required, resources and equipment that need to be ordered prior to school entry, and the need for specialized transportation. Following the review of information, the SERT and/or principal contact the parent to clarify information (if needed) and inform them of what resources will be available and which referrals are recommended. Finally, in early September, a transition meeting will be held at the school. Parents will be given an opportunity to sign referrals for services (School Rehab., etc.) and are welcome to invite service providers (childcare Resource Consultant, Speech-Language Pathologist, etc.) to this meeting. The Principal, SERT, classroom teacher, and Board support staff will be in attendance. ● The intake process began this week and will continue until the end of May. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact: Danila Aref Central Resource Teacher Nicholas Mancini Centre , 44 Hunt Street , Hamilton, ON, L8R 3R1 Tel. 905-525-2930, Ext. 2854 Fax 905-523-0454
