  4. Vision • One stop shop for researchers – Submission – APC and page charges – Proofs – Reading • Metadata extraction – Less manual form filling for authors • ORCiD/Crossref/Ringgold integrations – Extraction of key information for authors from their ORCiD profile – Type ahead options for Funding and Institution details 4

  5. Why? • Control of the submission process on a large scale • Smooth transitions for authors • Branded experience • Modern interface • Control of data • Faster development using Agile methodology 5

  6. How does it work? INGEST Once an author clicks submit all data is tagged using JATS XML and files are packaged up into Zip files which are sent to Aries’ FTP server Aries’ Ingest service sweeps the server every minute to check for new packages. Metadata and files are extracted and ingested into the relevant Editorial Manager site 11

  7. Great! What are the limitations? Current version of Ingest has some limitations (because it wasn’t designed for this!) • Custom questions data cannot be matched up so has to be ingested as an Additional Manuscript Detail field • File designations cannot be ingested so these have to be assigned manually, a text list is ingested as an AMD for Admins to refer to if the designations are not obvious • No automatic PDF build • No API integration for status updates on papers • Revisions not automatically recognised 12

  8. Some Stats! • Number of applications built = 7! • Months in development = 3 months to MVP, 8 months to full release • Number of journals using the submission portal = 60 • Number of Original Submissions = >3000 • Number of Revised Submissions = > 442 13
