He takes charge where he sees the need, especially when his classmates are in need of help. He’s a goal setter who works hard to improve himself personally and academically. Muscatel Middle School Steven Pham Steven is an alto saxophone player in my Intermediate Band and, as a beginner, he struggled because he didn’t realize that learning an instrument was a bigger challenge than he first thought. He would almost growl at me and the instrument, but I could see the light at the end of his tunnel even when he couldn’t. About two months in he began to smile more and realized that he was going to be successful, but he would have to continue working at it...and he did. Steven is one of my best and brightest musicians and he has decided to join the Advanced Band next year I look forward to watching him grow as both a musician and a young man. ~Ms. Taylor, Teacher 7 th grade
Muscatel Middle School Emily Ruiz Emily is a student whose presence is felt immediately in the classroom. Not only is she a responsible and active participant in daily lessons, Emily is a student who takes pride in our classroom. She often offers to help her peers understand a concept, or helps her teacher with classroom jobs. Emily was also the creator of the Muscatel Book Club. Emily started it, helped promote it by passing out flyers, encouraged her classmates to join, and even created her own designs for our Book Club gear. Emily is a stand-out student, but more importantly, she is a wonderful person with a beautiful heart. It has been my pleasure to teach her at Muscatel Middle School. ~Ms. Vidrio, Teacher 8 th grade
