KEY ELIGIBILITY EXPLAINED Income All household income. Dependent If you were under 23 on the 1st January 2015; or If you were over 23 on the 1st January 2015 but were under 23 when you first entered further or higher education.

What is HEAR? H igher E ducation A ccess R oute is an admissions route for school leavers who for social, financial or cultural reasons are under- represented at third level education.
What is HEAR? It was set up to ensure that all Leaving Certificate students have a fair and equal opportunity to progress to third level education.
Applying For A Grant HEAR is NOT the SUSI grant. If you apply to HEAR , you should also apply to SUSI if you think you may be eligible. P. 80
Why Apply To HEAR? 1. Reduced Points for CAO offers in the participating colleges, provided you meet the minimum entry requirements. 2. Post-entry supports - financial, academic, social and personal. P. 80
HEAR Application Criteria 1. Was your household income on or below €45,790 in 2015? 2. Do you or your family have a Medical Card/GP Visit Card? 3. Did your parents/guardians receive a means-tested social welfare payment for at least 26 weeks in 2015? 4. Is your parents’ or guardians’ employment status under - represented in Higher Education? 5. Have you attended a DEIS second level school for five years? 6. Do you live in an area of concentrated disadvantage? P.80
You must meet the HEAR income limit plus the right combination of 2 other indicators to be eligible.
How Do I Apply? 1. Apply to CAO at www.cao.ie by 1st February. 2. Fill in your HEAR Application Guide & Workbook with parents or guardians. 3. Complete all elements of the online HEAR application form by 1st March. 4. Submit clear copies of supporting documents requested on your checklist to CAO by 1 April. P. 80
How Do I Know What Documents I Need? When you fill in your online HEAR application and you will receive a checklist at the end. This is based on the information you provided. P. 80
What is DARE? The D isability A ccess R oute to E ducation (DARE) is a third level alternative admissions scheme for school-leavers whose disabilities have had a negative impact on their second level education.
What is DARE? DARE offers reduced points places to school leavers who as a result of having a disability have experienced additional educational challenges in second level education.
Who Should Apply? 1. If your disability has had a negative impact on your educational performance in school. 2. You may not be able to meet the points for your preferred course due to the impact of disability. 3. You are under 23 years as at 1 January 2017 . P. 81
You Should Apply If You Have Any Of The Below Disabilities – Autistic Spectrum Disorders (including Asperger’s) – ADD / ADHD – Blind / Vision Impaired – Deaf / Hard of Hearing – DCD – Dyspraxia/Dysgraphia – Mental Health Conditions – Neurological Conditions Brain Injury, Epilepsy, Speech & Language Communication Disorder – Significant Ongoing Illness – Physical Disability – Specific Learning Difficulty (Dyslexia & Dyscalculia)

How Do I Apply? 1. Apply to CAO at www.cao.ie by 1 February. 2. Review your DARE Application Guide with parents or guardians. 3. Complete Section A of the Supplementary Info Form and apply to DARE by 1 March. 4. Submit Educational Impact Statement and Evidence of Disability to CAO by 1 April. P. 81
