• a program that supports exceptional STUDENT- athletes and STUDENT-artists • for self-motivated, driven and organized students who are passionate about their SPORT or ART • a program that features a modified schedule so that students may compete or perform while working towards a British Columbia Dogwood Graduation Certificate • able to put together a program with some Vancouver Learning Network courses • a part of the Magee school community
• for student athletes/artists who are at the *enthusiast level (see SPARTS Integration) • for students who struggle with motivation or organization • a program that cuts corners academically • a program designed to accelerate graduation • easily able to accommodate highly specialized academic schedules • designed to pad applications to post secondary; there are too many compromises!
• able to accommodate students who are gone for long periods of time • set-up for working artists • an elitist subgroup of students • necessarily partnered with any associations SPARTS students are part of the Magee school community!

Magee SPARTs Integration FINE ARTS works with students who excel in the performing arts by allowing them to take part in our exceptional existing fine arts programs, in addition to their external training. Magee SPARTS Integration SPORT works with students who excel in athletics arts by allowing them to take part in our existing physical and health education classes and adding an elective to their external training program. Students would be in the 10+ hour range of training. Day 1 Day 2 FR 8 SCI 8 MA 8 SS 8 ENG 8 ADST 8 EXTERNAL TRAINING/PHE 8 EXTERNAL TRAINING
• are organized • are supported by parents and their association • are proactive with communication between teachers, counselors, parents, administration and coaches/instructors • are realistic in their expectations • maintain good mental health through balance • may not remain in SPARTS if their passion or academics become too overwhelming
• elite, provincial and/or national levels of competition or performance • a minimum 25 hours per week of supervised, certified training, not including competition time • schedules from coaches and associations • ‘G’ or ‘E’ work habits, with good academic standing • Students with an IEP may find SPARTS challenging and will likely require a skills block • SPARTS is a choice program; programs and academics will be regularly reviewed
• is the student athlete/artist ready for the many compromises? • travel time • time away from family and friends • does the organization need the student more than the student needs the organization? • what are the qualifications/motivations of the coach/instructor? • is the student athlete/artist mature enough to handle the demands?
• we will be using the VSB online application process in conjunction with the paper documents found on the Magee SPARTS webpage • SPARTS students do not need to apply as cross- boundary students, and there is no district placement test • please have all forms fully completed • SPARTS Application Deadline: Friday, Feb. 28 • offers are made by Tuesday, March 31 st via email; interviews may follow
