Mission ● To advise the local school division of needs in the education of students with disabilities; To participate in the development of priorities and strategies for our ● students with disabilities; To review policies and procedures for the provisions of special education ● and related services prior to submission to the school board. ● Review Special Education Annual Plan

Focal Points ● Growth in population of Students with Disabilities and Section 504 Plans Parent Involvement and participation in SEAC ● No parent concerns were voiced to SEAC ○ ● Budget process and updates Discussion on the difficulties recruiting & retaining quality staff that ● support successful programs ● Parent and staff training opportunities

Parent & Staff Training ● Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) ○ Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) Project SEARCH ● ○ SCPS staff & DARS Medicaid Waivers ● ○ Disability Resource Center (DRC) ● Multiple trainings provided by Parent Teacher Resource Center (PTRC) ○ ○ Stafford Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SSEPTA)

  6. Accomplishments ● Over 20 trainings provided for parents and community ○ Held by SEAC, PTRC, & SSEPTA ● Reviewed and signed the 2018-2019 Annual Plan ● Supported efforts for 116 Buddy Awards & 101 Extra Mile Awards

Recommendations ● Continue to adhere to the Guide for Special Education Advisory Committees in Virginia Develop calendar for 2018-2019 speaking events and publish over summer ● ● Support budget process ○ Understanding of staffing standards based on contents of IEPs Understanding of compliance ○ ● Updates on State Performance Indicators and areas of improvement Encourage board members to have nominees to sit on the SEAC ●
