Step-by-step approach to becoming smarter http://www.iec.ch/whitepaper/pdf/iecWP-smartcities-LR-en.pdf
Key Technologies in Transport ● Pervasive sensor networks ○ Fixed sensor: traditional infrastructure ○ Mobile probe: OBU, smartphone ○ Human: Social media, wearable device ● Low-cost communication ○ WiFi, 4G, 5G, V2X ○ Smart Grid ● Software as a Service and Service Platform ○ SaaS in Transport ○ Mobile app ○ ITS Platforms
Issues and Necessity ● Transportation: 35% of total energy consumption (700,000 MTHB/year) ECONOMIC LOSS ● Cost of land transportation: 2.12 THB/ton/km (train 0.95 THB/ton/km), yet land transportion ratio is still ECONOMIC LOSS as high as 87.5% ● Logistic costs is high (14.3% of GPD and 7.1% is from transportation) EFFICIENCY/COMPETIVENESS ● 8,675 road accident death toll in 2013 (world 3 rd worst) SAFETY, QUALITY OF LIFE
Expressway mostly in BKK

Traveller Information Since 2008 we focused on Traffic information. Yesterday Invest on probe ● Taxi ● Smartphone ● Fleet vehicle Today we go for Big Data while the GPS is built-in with new car.
Live Traffic with CCTV + mobile app Yesterday We got only the congestion level color on the map. Today We got live stream and lot of mobile apps.
Public source to Crowd source Yesterda Today y Phone camera Fixed CCTV
Yesterday Human sense Today V2V, I2V, V2X Automated Vehicle The TIS will be moved to transient, local information for a small cluster.
It is about a Business Model
Data Exchange at iTIC The Intelligent Traffic Information Center Foundation or iTIC was officially approved the registration by Ministry of Interior as a non-profit organization on June 14, 2010 with a registered capital of 500,000 Baht supported by Thai ITS Association.
Besides iTIC, ITS Thailand also supports other technologies: T-SQUARE by Toyota Tsusho, the member of ITS Thailand
Combat for high quality traffic info … From about 10K taxi GPS data, we can produce high density • (about 20,000 road links) and high accuracies (above 70%) traffic information for Bangkok metropolitan area Toyota Tsusho Electronics (Thailand) Co., Ltd. Confidential & Proprietary
TSQUARE high quality “travelling time” Origin-To-Destination Best Time to Leave Recommendation Estimated Travel Time Travel Suggest Best Routes Destination Time to Leave Select Point from Origin desired time of arrival Origin Point Historical Traffic Rush Hour Non-Rush Hour … Toyota Tsusho Electronics (Thailand) Co., Ltd. Confidential Proprietary
FM-RTIC VS RDS-TMC RDS-TMC FM-RTIC Sukhumvit Road. High Density Traffic Show High Quality (13 times of RDS-TMC) Traffic Time (TSquare quality) ▪ FM-RTIC is capable to broadcast traffic info. 13 times more than RDS-TMC. ▪ FM-RTIC is most Rama I Road. appropriate for Asia megacities such as BKK, Jakarta, etc. Toyota Tsusho Electronics (Thailand) Co., Ltd. Confidential & Proprietary
TSQUARE Big Data Analysis Services TSQUARE Big Data = HADOOP GPS and Traffic Info Big Data Analysis PIG HIVE HBASE (Scripting) (SQL) (DB with Taxi GPS Data real-time Map-Reduce VICS/RTIC Link access) (Distributed Data processing) Road Network Taxi GPS Data HDFS 1. Instant average speed of Bangkok taxis: (Hadoop Distributed File System) Bangkok Congestion Index, travelling time prediction/estimation 2. Instant numbers of taxi passengers (get on/off) and their OD (Original-Destination): demand hotspot, demand prediction 3. Instant Average speed of taxi on each road of Bangkok 4. Anomaly/incident detection from changes in speed from average over Bangkok roads. 5. Estimated instant traffic volume of Bangkok roads. HADOOP CLUSTERS Toyota Tsusho Electronics (Thailand) Co., Ltd. Confidential Proprietary
TSQUARE Traffic info with B2B partners This private approach TSquare is now ready to provide its B2B • services to all automotive and tier1 suppliers Toyota Tsusho Electronics (Thailand) Co., Ltd. Confidential & Proprietary
Conclusion and Challenges ● Technology(ICT) changes, Solution changes, Lifestyle changes then turn loop. ● Taipei and Bangkok have many things in common. We should share solutions! ● In Smart City not only IoT but Human, infrastructure and Vehicle are connected. ● Automated Vehicle and Connected Vehicle are the trends of ITS, and also TIS. ● Good Business Model will make the sustainable service. (like Uber, Waze)
Conclusion and Challenges ● ITS as a Service: We need a Service Platform with Open Standard, Open Data. ● Customise to fit culture/life style. ● Next steps for BKK are last-mile, door-to- door solution, and bike/car sharing. Let’s share the solution (business matching). ● Collaborations (among public authorities- academia-private sectors) are essential and effective to taggle the problems and maybe the only way to successful deployment
