  4. United Way of Kenosha County Focus on: INCOME As many as one-third of working Americans do not earn enough money to meet their basic needs. Wages have not kept pace with the rising cost of housing, healthcare, and education and currently, 40 million Americans are working in low-paying jobs without basic health and retirement benefits. For families walking a financial tightrope, unable to save for college, a home, or retirement, United Way is here to help. 4 February 25, 2018

  7. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) 2015/16 Tax Season Results: • 109 individuals participated as tax preparers • 2,977 hours volunteered • 3,157 tax returns were filed • $2.4 million in refunds were returned to Kenosha County!!! 7 February 25, 2018

  11. United Way of Kenosha County Focus on: EDUCATION Education is the cornerstone of individual and community success. But with more than 1.2 million children dropping out each year, America faces an education crisis. The cost? More than $312 billion in lost wages, taxes and productivity over their lifetimes. These trends are reversible, but only when communities and public, private and nonprofit sectors work together. 11 February 25, 2018

  13. Youth As Resources Kenosha County Youth As Resources (YAR) is a grant-giving program which funds youth-designed, youth-led community service projects in Kenosha County. Youth, with guidance from adults, determine the project they believe will address a need in their community. Youth groups may apply to Kenosha County Youth As Resources (YAR) for small grants of up to $500 which may be used to purchase supplies for the project, but may not be used to pay for volunteer time. 13 February 25, 2018

  14. Youth As Resources YAR has four grant cycles per year to fund projects from across Kenosha County. 2014-2015 results:  13 grants funded  $5,680 distributed  357 youth participants 2005-2015 results:  138 grants funded  $51,573 distributed  4,746 youth participants 14 February 25, 2018

Readers Are Leaders • Held as part of national “Read Across America” event that celebrates the birthday of Dr. Seuss in March. • 2016 was the eighth year of the program 2016  350 local volunteer leaders  30 elementary schools  4 school districts Thanks to our event sponsors!  297 classrooms  10,500 children reached 15 February 25, 2018

  16. Playground Power-Up Projects This project brings community volunteers to Kenosha County schools throughout the summer months to add both educational components and action stencils to promote physical activity. Created in partnership with Fuel Up to Play60, the stencils that volunteers will be painting inspire kids to learn and move while creating games around the stencils. .   17. McKinley Elementary Tutoring Program The McKinley Tutoring Program is an Early Grade Reading Initiative that helps children build the critical reading skills needed to succeed in school and life. 2015-2016 Results: • 75 Volunteer Tutors • 47 K-3 Grade Students • 1,773 Tutoring Sessions • 887 Hours of Tutoring Summer Tutoring: • 25 Volunteer Tutors • 27 K-2 Grade Students Students in the program collectively went up 150 reading levels in one school year! 17 February 25, 2018

Day of Caring – September 17 from 8 am to noon Nearly 500 volunteers are needed to help with projects that vary from landscaping, park clean-up, donation sorting, assisting in the build of the Habitat for Humanity House, a large-scale food packaging project and many more!
