Community Impact Award We were delighted to win the saving lives Community Impact Award at this year’s Charity Retail Association Annual Conference. What is the Recycling Door-to- Door Project? We are all familiar with the collection bags that many of us receive saving lives at home. The bags are collected, stock is sorted and distributed as necessary. The Air Ambulance Service identified the need to bring this in- house, and so our venture began . . . . www.theairambulanceservice.org.uk
Background • In early 2016, we started putting plans in place to bring collections in-house. saving lives • This was due to having stock issues with our shops, and the rapid expansion of the charity shops • Involved a big recruitment drive, so our Recycling Team got in touch with the Job Centre & CT Skills for their assistance. • Working together, we set a series of recruitment processes including holding NVQ courses and holding selection days. • First phase resulted in 9 job offers – second phase now 25 employees on board! www.theairambulanceservice.org.uk
People – It makes a Difference! • Majority of people employed so far have been fantastic – giving some of them a real purpose in life. saving lives • Some very heart-warming stories and feel good factor. • Working with the Job Centre, the Charity has offered a variety of NVQ courses to our employees. • The charity also has some long term placements on board - work ethic commended. • In October, we introduced our first reward and recognition event with a talk from one of our paramedics. www.theairambulanceservice.org.uk
The Story So Far . . . . 2016 • We started by trialling the county of Leicestershire in February – and analysed data and stock. saving lives • Formal roll-out commenced between March and May with two teams in place. • Cover approx. 34,000 houses per week. • Generating approx. 10 tonnes of stock per week. • Approx 65-70% of stock goes to our shop, with prime stock being fast-tracked. • Stock selling on the internet • Increase of shop sales www.theairambulanceservice.org.uk
