The Pursuit it of Ple leasure. 2:1-11 11 • Entire section can be summed up with verse 10. • This man knew no limitations. • His desires had a blank check. • He’s not exaggerating. 1 Kings 10:1 -7 • For the most part, it does not appear that Solomon engaged in sinful activities. 2:3, 9 • Was Solomon successful? 1:3 cf. 2:10 • Depends on what standard you use to judge success. • Solomon recognizes his failure. 2:11

Wis isdom Excels, but Does Not Deli liver • 2:12-17 • Solomon’s use of wisdom is different than his use of the same word in Proverbs. • In Proverbs, wisdom is based on a reverence for God. Proverbs 1:7 • In Ecclesiastes, wisdom refers to learning and the accumulation of knowledge and facts. • Both the fool and the wise end up in the same place. • Both are soon forgotten.
Wasted In Inherit itance. 2:18-23 23 • Solomon faces a universal problem. • 1 Timothy 6:7 • “I ain’t (sic) never seen a hearse with a luggage rack…” • Solomon’s misery now extends to his own life. • What will become of his enormous fortune? • Will his heritage be left to a fool to be squandered?
