Vice Chairperson will be encouraged to replace Chairperson upon completion of term. SDMA Pipeline: Leadership Summit What? • 3-day camping event for high school, community college and university MESA students. • Students participate in: • various competitions that promote the use of leadership skills, teamwork and strengths attributes. • StrengthsQuest seminar in which they learn how to use their top 5 strengths (resulting from an online StrengthsQuest Survey). • professional development seminar in which they learn how to create effective cover/interest letters. Funding • Atkins Inc. donated $5,000 • San Diego State University Engineering Research Center (ERC)

Leadership Summit Highlights StrengthsQuest Seminar • Review of top strengths (Strengths Quest survey via the Gallup Organization) • Professional development interest/cover letter workshop Special Guests • Guest Speaker Maria Charles • Engineering Research Center presenters Prosthetic Hand Challenge • Students build a prosthetic hand using materials & tools provided (straws, string, glue gun, tape, popsicle sticks…)

  10. 2012 Leadership Summit Evaluation Summary Overall, the Summit was characterized as a positive experience as depicted in the responses to the individual questions and the students’ overall experiences. The average responses were 3.1 or greater for all of the individual topics students were asked to rate. Improvement of the food was the most frequent response to what can be done to improve the Summit. Evaluation Summary created by the Institute of Public Health  52 students total in attendance
