Threat Assessments On October 26-27, 2016, threat assessments were conducted at each of the four (4) RSD 6 school buildings by members of the the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit of Homeland Security and State Department of Education. Next scheduled threat assessments are on September 17-18, 2018. Threat Assessments
Training ● ICS - 100: “An Introduction to the Incident Command Structure System. (This training was provided by Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security Regional coordinator Thomas Vannini and Hank Paszczuk). ● IS-907: Active Shooter: What You Can Do (This mandatory online training was offered in October 2016 for all faculty and staff members). ● Safe and Sound Schools program (Michele Gay) provided to Wamogo on April 2, 2018 ● Social Media/Cyberbullying lecture by Trooper Sam McCord of the Connecticut State Police Computer Crimes Unit on May 24, 2018 ● A minimum of at least one emergency drill per month is conducted at each of the schools of Regional School District 6. Area Trends in School Safety and Security ● Region 10 Board of Education unanimously approved for seven (7) security officers to be armed (concealed) starting in the 2018 fall semester. ● Region 10 on staff security are retired state and local police officers ranging from 20-25 years of experience and training. ● Region 10 security officers will undergo re-training and certification via (P.O.S.T.) Police Officer Standards and Training Council in August 2018 ● Total estimated yearly cost of salary(s) with benefits for seven (7) security officers range from approximately $233,000- $270,000. ● Approximate cost of arms and supplies: $10,000.00 ● Approximate cost of associated liability insurance:TBD Area Trends in School Safety and Security
