A Few Main Points This summer you will receive your child’s math level recommendation, so you will not select a math course at this time. Please return the Course Request Card to your child’s homeroom teacher no later than February 28. This gives me time to call you if the card needs corrections. You and your child need to choose: Year-long reading OR a semester of reading AND a semester of Transitional Spanish or World Language One year-long elective or two semester-long electives ACT II (if interested)
Core Classes Rising 6 th Grade Registration All students take the above classes. You do not need to complete anything in this section.
Reading and Languages This is confusing. The 1st box is from the front of the card and the 2nd box is from the back of the card but they go together. Students have the option of taking year-long reading or taking reading and either Transitional Spanish or a World Language. If you opt for reading and a language, the student will attend reading one day and the language the next day and continue in this pattern.
Choosing Electives Students must choose two semester classes or one full-year class. For example, students could choose a semester of Exploration Rotation/Wheel and a semester of Chorus. Or students could sign-up for one full-year class, such as Band or full-year Exploration Rotation/ Wheel. The classes offered on the Exploration Rotation /Wheel vary but in the past have included classes such as Teen Living, Technical Education, Drama, and Art. Please complete the alternate section in the event your first choice(s) are not available.
ACT II ACTII is an opportunity for students to take classes after school. Attendance is taken and grades earned. Signing up for ACT II here only expresses an interest, not a commitment. Please check “not interested” if you are not interested.
Parent Signature Please remember to sign and return by Friday, February 28. This will give me time to review the forms and call you if any corrections are needed. We want our students to start their middle school experience as smoothly as possible!
