  2. Research Funding on the PAH Campus PA Research Foundation (PARF) • PARF Grants abolished in 2011 (PARF Grants no longer exist!) PA Hospital • PAH Private Practice Trust Fund (PPTF) – to 2015 • Study, Education and Research Trust Account (SERTA) – from 2015 • SERTAC Business Rules: Applications for research funding must be made through the Centres for Health Research (CHR) annual granting scheme ( http://qheps.health.qld.gov.au/metrosouth/finance/docs/serta- bus-rul.pdf ) PA Research Support Scheme (PA RSS) • Established in 2011 to administer research funding for PARF and PA Hospital (first grants funded in 2012) • Administered via CHR

  3. PA RSS Aims: 1. To strengthen Metro South Health (MSH) based researchers, research projects & research infrastructure through: i. Collaborations across MSH sites ii. Cross-disciplinary collaborations within the PAH iii. Inter-institutional collaborations with PAH academic partner schools and institutes based on the PAH campus 2. To support MSH & PAH campus-based staff conducting clinical & translational research aiming to improve patient outcomes

TRADIM Research Grant Scheme Stems from National Critical Care & Trauma Response Centre (NCCTRC) • 2004: NCCTRC established at Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) for rapid medical response to incidents of national significance • 2010: QH (via PAH) entered partnership with NCCTRC • 2014: TRauma And DIsaster Management (TRADIM) Research Grant Scheme established (first grants funded in 2015) – Administered through CHR – Funded by NCCTRC Trust Fund AIMS 1. To increase the evidence base of trauma clinical practice 2. To develop research collaborations between MSH & RDH/NCCTRC 3. To improve trauma patient outcomes through research

PA RSS 2016 Funding Round – What’s New? • SERTA (MSH wide) has replaced the PAH PPTF (PAH only) – PA RSS open to all MSH researchers (all MSH research sites) • Eligibility (applicant or co-investigator) is restricted to researchers from: – MSH – PAH-based academic partner university school or institute (UQ SOM, UQDI, QUT IHBI) – Griffith University who are based at a MSH site • Associate Investigators may be named (no restrictions apply) • Funded clinical studies must have site specific approval (SSA); evidence of this must be forwarded to the CHR by late 2016 • Mandatory questions have been added to application forms • Most award types are funded by only one funding body – only those who are able to receive funding body grant payments will be eligible for these awards

Funding Body Award Payments SERTA grant payments • Applicants must be a MSH employee • Applicants must have ≥ 0.5 FTE appointment • Funds must be paid into a MSH research cost centre (direct journal only) PARF grant payments • Applicants must be either a: – MSH employee – Employee of a PAH campus based academic partner university school or research institute (UQDI, UQ SOM, IHBI) – Griffith employee and based at a MSH site • Applicants must have a combined appointment ≥ 0.5 FTE – E.g.  0.3 MSH + 0.2 UQDI  0.2 MSH + 0.2 UQDI • Funds may be paid into MSH research cost centre or university research account (tax invoice only)

  16. General Eligibility: People & Research Support Applicants Applicants must i. Be a member of staff of a. MSH (or hold formal appointment with MSH); OR b. A PAH academic partner university school or research institute based on the PAH campus (i.e UQ SOM, UQDI or IHBI) ** ; OR c. Griffith University and based at a MSH site ** ii. Hold above appointment with ≥ 0.5 FTE for the duration of the funding period Research Teams ** The research team must contain at least one MSH member of staff (applicant or co-investigator) • Max 4 co-investigators – Must be from MSH, UQ SOM, UQDI, IHBI or Griffith University • Max 2 associate investigators – May be from outside MSH, UQ SOM, UQDI, IHBI or Griffith University – May only be from MSH if a MSH employee is already named as the applicant or a co-investigator (a token MSH representative is insufficient!) Applications close 5 pm Friday 31 July

General Eligibility: People & Research Support Other • The majority of research must take place on PAH campus – Unless sufficient justification can be provided • A complete application must be received by CHR by submission deadline, including: – Eligibility checklist – Mandatory questions – Eligibility certification – Reviewer nominations with complete contact details (x3) – Signatures (agreements and certification of support) • Research proposals concurrently funded by the NHMRC, ARC or any other organisation/funding type listed on the Australian Competitive Grants Register (or international equivalent) are not eligible – Person (People Support applications) – Research (Research Support applications) Applications close 5 pm Friday 31 July
