  2. What does a room rep do? PTA Donations and Volunteers Ø You must be an approved volunteer to be a room rep. An LISD volunteer application must be completed each year. http://volunteer.leanderisd.org. You must be a member of the Reed PTA. http://reed.my-pta.org Ø Organize class donations and volunteers for PTA events and school wide activities. Primary PTA contact for the class throughout the year. Ø Each class needs a head room rep and an alternate room rep

  3. What does a room rep do? Class Parties Winter Party Dec. 18/Valentine Party Feb. 12 Ø Work with teacher to develop a theme for parties and request the assistance of the parents to contribute toward needed supplies. Any money collected will be used to reimburse for supplies. Plan and carry out the activities by seeking participation from parents. Keep costs low! Use Signup Genius or a Shutterfly ShareSite to communicate with parents and request party supplies. An Alternate PTA Room Rep must handle any cash/checks collected by the class.

Teacher Celebrations Ø Plan a birthday celebration for your teacher Ø Teacher’s “favorite things” list will help you get to know your teacher better and give you possible gift ideas. Please share this list with the families in your class. Ø Teacher Appreciation Week is organized by the PTA Hospitality Committee

Classroom Updates/Pictures Ø Participate in the Room Rep Shutterfly site. https://reedroomreps20152016.shutterfly.com/ Ø Create a class Shutterfly site to share upcoming events, photos, contact info, etc. (By uploading pictures to this site you agree to allow the PTA to use them to promote school spirit through our website, yearbook, bulletin board, etc.) Ø Visit https://www.shutterfly.com/classroom-share/ to create your class site.

  6. What do I do now? Meet With Your Teacher Ø Get to know him/her and obtain a class roster with parent email addresses Ø Discuss ways volunteers can help out in the classroom this year Ø Learn what class events and projects your teacher will need help with this year

  7. What do I do now? Email an introduction letter to parents Ø Modify the sample letter or create your own. Include your contact info. Possible items to include: Reminder to complete the LISD volunteer application before volunteering Ø Inform the Room Rep if a non-photo disclaimer was submitted to the school Ø A copy of Favorite Things for your teacher Ø Any additional items your teacher/class may need or upcoming class events Ø Upcoming PTA events Ø Encourage parents to join the Reed PTA Ø Option of planning a class “meet and greet” at the park Ø

Get Connected Check out the Room Rep Shutterfly site Ø Create a class Shutterfly share site Ø Visit the Reed and Reed PTA website for volunteer info and school Ø events to share with the families in your class Make an effort to connect with the families in your classroom Ø Since we are a bilingual school, all written communication in the dual Ø language classes must be in English and Spanish.
