  7. 2017 Accomplishments Presentations 23 groups and over 660 people  New Program – “Nature Quest” Offered in 3 County parks o  Swimming lessons at County beaches  2 Boy Scout merit badge classes Environmental Science o Soil and Water Conservation o Reaching 58 scouts. o

  8. 2017 Accomplishments Displays  25 different events  15 communities  Retzer Nature Center  Attendance estimates over 13,000 people

  9. 2017 Accomplishments Rain Gardens/Rain Barrels  Provided 7 rain garden programs for 108 people  40 rain barrels sold in annual sale

  10. 2017 Accomplishments Yard Waste Composting  Hosted 4 home composting workshops for 47 people  Sold 37 compost bins at annual sale  Processed/Composted 4000 tons of waste from municipalities

  11. 2017 Accomplishments Citizen Stream Monitoring  Trained 9 new volunteers for Level 1  Volunteers monitored 26 sites  6 additional sites monitored by County  Phosphorus data collected at 3 sites with state funding Sussex Creek, Scuppernong Creek and Pewaukee River  Annual appreciation event attended by 22 volunteers

  12. 2017 Accomplishments School Teachers and Students  Project WET training to 14 staff in Waukesha School District and Camp Whitcomb  2 Tour/Training opportunities in summer for teachers with 40 attending  48 presentations to over 3377 students – 18% increase from last year  10 field experiences to about 750 students – a 20% increase  Using new technology in field study including digital microscope and infrared thermometer

  13. 2018 Work Plan  Newsletters/News Releases Included tax inserts o Displays/Handouts  Grand opening is not set — probably will coincide with earth day activities at Retzer o  Yard Waste Processing/Composting Included home composting education in goals o  Education for Homeowners Associations Town of Delafield has agreed to work with us o  Teachers/Students Made Project WET as-needed and included more emphasis on summer training for teachers o

  14. Looking Ahead  New permanent display on water quality in Retzer Nature Center Nature Center has over 25,000 visitors annually — 7,500 in programs and the o remainder in special events, planetarium shows and visitors New educational programs are being developed to utilize the space o  Cooperative Environmental Education agreement Agreement between Waukesha County, Waukesha School District and Carroll o University to do collaborative K-12 environmental education K-5 th grade are currently being pilot tested while middle school and high school o will be developed in 2018 — full launch by fall of 2018  New Traveling Display Will be developing new traveling display that will correspond with permanent o Retzer display  Monthly Updates Mid-January will be bi-monthly o March will contain all the end of year reporting for 2017 o

  15. Waukesha County Construction Site Erosion Control and GIS Workshop  WHO? Local building inspectors, municipal planners & staff  WHAT? Half-day seminar  WHEN?
