What is STORMWATER RUNOFF? Stormwater Runoff= rainwater, water from washing cars, overwatering lawns flows over land or impervious surfaces and does not percolate into the ground Impervious surfaces Parking Lots Streets Roofs
Stormwater: Water Quality • Stormwater accumulates debris, chemicals, sediment or other pollutants from impervious areas • Adversely affect water quality - discharge is untreated .

SCDHEC Test Sites Waters that do not meet state water quality standards are placed on DHEC’s Impaired Waters List . Impairments include: • Fecal coliform bacteria • Dissolved oxygen • Heavy metals • Sediment • Macroinvertebrates
TMDL Total Maximum Daily Load • TMDLs are established for waters on the impaired waters list • All green areas drain to impacted test sites • In Lexington County 40% of our watersheds are impaired
