  4. PWD professionals in the Philippines “The leading occupation among PWDs in the urban area is masseur , while those from rural areas are mostly farmers/ farm workers/ livestock and poultry raisers .” – Philippine Institute for Development Studies

  5. PROBLEM: ACCESIBILITY + MOBILITY = UNEMPLOYMENT There is a need to create an alternative yet better employment opportunities for persons with disabilities who find regular employment difficult to access due to misconceptions about their productiveness and capabilities, and also about the necessity and costs of making workplace modifications for them.

  6. SOLUTION: WORK-FROM-HOME PLATFORM FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES Our concept is a novel way of using the telecommuting platform in alleviating the economic plight of persons with disabilities. By providing the necessary training, use of available tools and tweaking them by adapting to the special needs of PWDs, we are thereby leveling the playing field for them.

  7. MARKET: ONLINE FREELANCING & TELECOMMUTING The market for online freelancing and telecommuting is huge worldwide and the Philippines is the leading country second only to India in terms of the total man-hours of projects grabbed. The average hourly rate for all categories stood at US$8.3 in 2012, way above the average for waged salary in the Philippines. Project WIRED can take advantage on this by becoming the world’s first online freelancing company dedicated in hiring qualified PWDs as freelancers by providing them the specialized training and technology adapted to their special needs.

  8. STRATEGIES: • Develop a training module about the different adaptive technologies for PWDs and create a working package for their effective utilization for telecommuting work; • Development of prototype web applications that enhances the usability of screen readers for the blind and speech recognitions soft wares for the deaf; • Establish a virtual company that actively seeks engagement with online companies for the purpose of hiring qualified PWDs to do virtual assistants work.
