THE PROBLEM When it comes to STEM, diversity is stagnant. This decline is stark, especially among minority groups and women. Part of the problem could come from a lack of access. [1] African-American Latino and Ethnic Minority students are far less likely to enroll in STEM- related Advanced Placement courses. Many students state they don't take AP courses due to a "lack of confidence."[2] 1
THE MISSION Having come from an ethnic minority background myself, I’ve found that there are not many role models who have made it to the highest level. The driving vision behind this movement is to provide high level mentorship to an audience of underrepresented girls who can have futures in STEM. We seek to inform, educate, empower, inspire, celebrate and recognise women and girls in STEM related education, careers and businesses. Our mission is to facilitate and create conditions that will help increase the number of girls from ethnic minority and underprivileged backgrounds into STEM professionals. Role models can change lives. This movement will help seed ample opportunities for participants through our motivational, action-oriented approach. Long term, we aim to break further into various other programmes and initiatives. 2

THE PROCESS An invitation will be sent to schools, colleges and not for profit organisations that work with young girls within the age range of 14 and 25. All girls who register their interest will go through a pre-qualifying process to identify their interest levels as well as potential. Up to 100 girls who pass the pre-qualifying phase will be invited to attend a 3 day boot camp (Friday to Sunday). At the boot camp, the participants will be given an opportunity to undertake a competitive project which will result in a winning group being identified. The winning group will then be supported over a 12 month period. The rest of the participants will be given certificates of attendance. To maintain the integrity of the program and prevent conflict of interests, we have chosen one mentor from each specific area and subject. 4
