Utah Tiger Muskie History • 1980s TM come to Utah – nearing 30 years of Utah Tiger Muskies • 2007-2009 VHS disease stocking stops • 2008 C&R Pineview and Newton • 2008 Lee Kay Hatchery construction begins

Summary of DNR 2015 Survey • 40% of respondents target Tiger Muskie 48% would not harvest Tiger Muskie 47% would harvest (most preferred fish >36” long) • No consensus on trophy length – 40” vs. 45” vs. 50” • 66% of respondents would pay to participate in a species slam 2016 DNR Native Cutthroat Slam $20 adult $10 child TM harvest tag not well received on Utah forums

Current Harvest Regulations • C&R only at Pineview (PV) and Newton • All other bodies of water daily harvest one 40” • Cut bait restrictions only PV and Newton 1x1” – all other bodies of water allow bait any size • All waters except PV allow TM spearfishing

Utah Tiger Muskie Focus Group • 27 April 2016 DNR meeting • Toured Lee Kay TM Hatchery – Video made • Presentation from DNR fishery biologist Mr. Chris Penne on UT TM history and national Muskie info • Focus of meeting: Craft and/or propose harvest regulation allowing some level of harvest while preserving trophy TM fishery • Meeting take-aways: DNR no regulation changes until UT reaches TM Independence DNR reviewing new bodies of waters for future TM stocking DNR enthusiastic about future Muskies, Inc. UT Chapter DNR working questions for upcoming survey with Focus Group DNR assistance from TM anglers on TM sizes/waters caught

Utah • Initial Provisional Status per MI Polices, Resolutions, Procedures, and Guidelines (PRPAG) MI Board to remove Provisional Status • MI new chapter requirements: Preliminary status removal – 5-10 anglers planning to be active for 2 years in chapter Key chapter members…become familiar with MI bylaws and PRPAG available on website if a member MI administrative secretary send packet (received)

Next 5 Phases for new chapter (read aheads and handouts) Phase #1: • Initial Board meeting run by preliminary group – this is it folks • Coordinate w/MI VP Finance/Treasurer establishing accounts and organizations Federal ID number (working) Phase #2: • Chapter Officer Elections (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Chapter Rep and 4 other chapter member) • Plan for fundraiser(s) • Chapter charter signed and submitted to MI administrative secretary for MI Executive Committee (EC) approval • Chapter develops agenda for current years meetings • MI EC approval chapter name & number assigned

Phase #3: • Continue membership drive – goal 15/25 members (have now) • MI EC coordinates w/MI EC VP Membership/Marketing & assigns big brother w/another chapter for new chapter development Phase #4: • Elected EC reviews MI bylaws and PRPAG available on MI website • Chapter EC w/members meets discusses ‘first’ major fundraising event... Phase #5: • Membership drive continues • Chapter representative attends regional meeting…
