Playing Inside
Inside play consists of climbing, jumping, obstacle courses and other gross motor movement. We love climbing on boxes, sliding down ramps, and following each other as we each discover new ways to move!
Stacking rings, foam blocks, zippers, and other activities are enjoyed during quieter moments in the day. In the nursery at the end of the day we have time with small toys which foster fine motor development.
Being together means we often have chances to play together. At this age we primarily play beside each other, each of us doing our own game, in each other’s presence.
Many times during our day we read and explore books. We enjoy reading books with our teachers and gazing at the beautiful pictures at our own pace.
We are practicing dressing ourselves and each other with play clothes. Some of us are helping other children with slippers and zippers.
Every morning we have our circle with all our teachers. We hear songs about the seasons, and animals we know well! Up the tall, white candlestick Crept Little Mousey Brown, Right up to the very top, But he couldn’t get down. So he called for his grandma, “Grandma! Grandma!” But Grandma was in town, So he curled himself up into a ball, And rolled himself right down.
Where are the Froggies when the north wind blows? We cannot see them in the ice and snow. Deep, deep down in the mud they lie, Froggies are sleeping with tight closed eyes. Throughout our day we sing songs and have a few favorites we frequently request! Here is my choo choo, here is my track, I choo choo up, and I choo choo back. The wheels on the train go clickety clack! Poof goes the smoke in the old smokestack.
We all love music! Bowdoin students come and play instruments for us to enjoy. Every Friday Caitey plays the Ukulele for us! We even get to strum the strings!
