THE JOURNEY SO FAR: 2015 19 June: agreement to bid as HIOW 4 September: submission of HIOW Prospectus by 19 partners 17 November : HIOW meeting with Secretary of State − “Like HIOW bid: more ambition on housing and governance but won’t impose a Mayor” Autumn : HIOW bid supported by Hampshire and Isle of Wight MPs

THE JOURNEY SO FAR: 2016 28 January : Cities and Local Government Devolution Act – Included late Gov’t amendment to permit districts to join Combined Authorities (CA) without county consent, and to enable CAs to split a county area 29 January : meeting with James Wharton – “Agree a Mayor and you go to the front of the queue” ie no Mayor, no deal 12 February : HIOW decision not to agree Mayor w/c 22 February : Confidential Solent discussions with Treasury/CLG 7 March : HCC joins Solent negotiations – following Government encouragement of a wider deal: “the more the merrier” 11 March : HCC decides not to sign at this stage 16 March : Solent CA announcement at Budget postponed Spring/summer : Likely Solent CA announcement
