Good practice: Broparken • Result of a long collaboration and a collective learning process between Umeå municipality and young people. • Representatives of parkour, snowboarding, stage and dance organizations have contributed with their ideas. • Contains parkour park, surfaces for urban farming, occasional trades and surfaces for performancecs and activities such as snowboarding.
Good practice: Electric buses • By June 2015 there will be nine ultra fast- charging electric buses with hybrid back- up in traffic. • The vision is to add another 24 buses by 2020, that will increase the share of electric buses in the transport system from 0 % in 2010 to 70 % in 2020. • Noise levels can be reduced up to 10 dBA. • Adapted to cold winter climate.
Good practice: Be Green Umeå • Be Green Umeå is a project office that has worked with sustainability projects • Overall purpose to develop and test innovative ideas that makes it easier and more fun to travel and live in a more sustainable way • The projects’ objective has among other things been that more people will choose to bike, use public transport, recycle waste and save energy
Good practice: Sustainable Ålidhem • A national pilot project focusing on large- scale sustainable renovation of 1960s and 1970s buildings, side by side with new low-energy buildings. Overall objective to transform Ålidhem • into a more sustainable neighborhood by halving the energy use in the area with sustained rent levels. • About 400kW of Photo-voltaic cells installed on roofs, suppying the area with 1/3 of the building electricity.
Good practice: Waste plan 2020 • A locally decided policy document with a clear objective to work with waste prevention and to climb up the waste hierarchy. • Has time-bound targets with a clear defined responsibility for implementation and budgeted funds allocated. • The development of the waste plan has been carried out in dialogue and with the people and organizations concerned.
Good practice: Dåva CHP • Sweden’s largest CHP plant based on solid fuels is the heart of Umeå’s district heating supply. • The production is gentle on the environment and minimizes emissions through advanced filtration systems. • One of the world’s most energy efficient and environmentally friendly plants with waste as a primary fuel producing heat and electricity from waste and bio-energy and forest industry residues. Fuels mainly from regional, contributing • to employment in the forestry and transport sector in northern Sweden.
