  6. Three Characteristics of a Good Assessment Reliability Validity Usability

  7. Reliability Test reliability is the consistency of scores students would receive on alternate forms of the same test. Due to many variables, no two forms will consistently produce identical results. CMGE uses randomized forms to protect the validity of the assessment.

  8. CMGE Reliability Scores CMGE Randomized Grammar: raw score: .859 converted ELL levels: .811 CMGE Randomized Reading: raw score: .917 converted ELL levels: .885 Universal Reliability Interpretations Reliability Coefficient Value Interpretation .90 and up Excellent and unusual .80 - .89 Good for standardized, high-stake testing .70 - .79 Adequate for classroom exams Below .70 may have limited applicability

  9. Validity Assessment validity asks is the test justified and accurate. Validity is based on various types of evidence: • High Reliability: with scores assigned consistently (reliability), it is possible to conclude that the scores accurately measure what is being assessed. • Expertise of designers: our designers have a combined 50 years of assessment design and administration experience in ESL and International Student Programs. • Affirmation in the field: ELL department heads, ISP school coordinators, and ISP managers in large and small school districts and in prestigious private schools are satisfied with the results – it measures what it says it measures – students’ ability with English in classrooms where English is the medium of instruction.

  10. Usability Usability of CMGE is high because: • Easy to administer by you or your para-professional staff; • Not time consuming – about 90 minutes for a thorough test; • Cloud-based, hosted in Canada, accessible worldwide; • Responsive – Can be used on a variety of laptops/tablets; • Scoring done for you - raw scores converted to ELL levels; • Low cost - $20.00 CDN, with minimum staff time required and instant results.
