OIL PASTELS!!!!!! Like crayons but way better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TECHNIQUES TO FOLLOW
HOLDING PASTELS • Hold the pastel like you would a pencil • Thickness of lines depend on the amount of pressure you put on the pastel • Careful though – pastels break easily
BLENDING/MIXING COLORS • Mixed directly on your paper • Two types • Optical mixing – colors next to each other appear to blend together • Blending – pastels are mixed on the paper
HOW TO BLEND • Smudging with your fingers • Keep your fingers clean to keep from contaminating other colored areas • Blending tools • Tortillion or paper towel • Lifts a lot of the color off of the paper.
BABY OIL • Turns oil pastels into a paint like consistency • Needs to dry after being used – will soak the paper
SGRAFFITO • Sgraffito – Scratch off • Scratching off one layer to show the layer beneath • Use only the scratch sticks Miss Hagan provides.
