DUAL ENROLLMENT- THE BASICS • Dual Enrolled students are enrolled in high school and college at the same time. Students receive credit on both the high school transcript and on the college transcript and the grade will impact both the high school and the college GPA. • The counselors and administrators at NHHS do not have access to college progress and grades. These grades will not be in PowerSchool for parents and students to check. It is the student’s responsibility to communicate with each professor to find out how grades are calculated and where they can view progress. Each college will communicate the final grade to the counselors and grades will be placed on the transcript with the following conversion: – A in college class = 95 + 5 Bonus Points= 100 on the high school transcript – B in college class = 85 + 5 Bonus Points= 90 on the high school transcript – C in college class= 75 + 5 Bonus Points= 80 on the high school transcript – D in college class= 70 + 5 Bonus Points= 75 on the high school transcript – F in college class= 65. No Bonus Points= 65 on the high school transcript. – W (student withdraws from the class BEFORE the drop date)= class will be deleted from high school transcript – WF (student withdraws or is dropped from the class AFTER the drop date= 65 on the high school transcript • College professors will not communicate with parents. Attendance requirements vary by college/university and MUST be followed. NHHS field trips are NOT excused absences from college classes unless approved by the professor.
PENDING CHANGES: • Please be aware that there are changes pending with Dual Enrollment in the state of Georgia. At this time, we DO NOT know when the final decisions will be made. • Here is the short version of the pending changes: – Only 11 th and 12 th graders will be eligible for DE – Students will have a cap of 30 credit hours (typically 10 classes). This is credits attempted not completed. – All applications will be online (anticipated to be released in mid-March 2020) – Students may not take the same course twice (retaking because they failed it) – After a 2 nd withdrawal from a class, you are no longer eligible for DE.
