Attendance Policy for NCC students… ✓ Information regarding NCC policies can be found in our student handbook. Attendance is one of our focus areas for student achievement and success. Students who attend NCC regularly are successful. ✓ We have high expectations for student success and want to be upfront with our policy. ✓ Parents/Guardians should contact NCC the day of or prior to their student‘s absence. (For employability grade - Other options) ✓ The contact is noted in the system and is important if the student misses more than the allotted days. ✓ There are no excused absences, however, school sponsored field trips (NCC or sending school) are marked with an “F” in the attendance field to denote a field trip. ✓ Students have two days per semester that they can use as a college, military or career day that does not count against their attendance.
Students may earn back up to 3 days by setting up “Time for Time”. TFT will only be applied to absences when a student contacts the school before class. Exceptions for absences may be made for long term or family hardships
Attendance Policy for NCC students continued… ✓ A student can miss no more than 10 days per year. ✓ Students missing 11 to 12 days per year may return on attendance probation if they meet the academic requirements, have fewer than 2 discipline referrals, and are recommended by their instructor. ✓ If a student is allowed to return on probation, they may miss 3 days per semester for 2 semesters. ✓ Student, parent, and home school counselor are contacted at 5, 8, 11, and 13 days of absences. ✓ Students may use up to 3 days of “Time for Time”. Students must contact their instructor when they will be absent to use TFT. ✓ Students and parents who have questions or concerns about attendance, should contact Mrs. Lasley, NCC Building Administrative Assistant or Mr. Webster, Student Services Coordinator.
Attendance Rewards for Students ✓ Students at NCC are rewarded for perfect and excellent attendance. ✓ Perfect attendance is zero absences during a quarter, semester, year, or two years and recognized with a gold certificate. ✓ Excellent attendance is awarded for two or fewer absences over the course of a quarter, or semester and is awarded with a blue certificate. ✓ Students who earn excellent or perfect attendance for the semester receive a T-shirt. ✓ Students with perfect attendance for the semester also receive a gift from their instructor. ✓ Students with perfect attendance for the year, also receive a gift from the school. ✓ Students with perfect attendance for 2 years are recognized at the NCC Graduation
NCC Grading Procedures for 2014-2018 5% of grade + Embedded English 45% of 45% of Grade grade grade 5% is categorized as “other” Our staff has made a bold decision in 2014-2015 to make teaching and grading “Essential Employability Skills” a priority. All research and feedback from business and industry shows that students are lacking employability skills. This will be a large part of your student’s grade.
Grading Continued ✓ Students will be responsible for doing high quality work. ✓ We will not accept that a student wants to take a zero. ✓ Students will have the opportunity to redo certain assignments and assessments that are measured by the technical skill, essential employability skill, and related academic skill curriculum. ✓ If a student is suspended for more than 60% of the grading period,or does not communicate their absence, they will receive a “Zero” for their employability grade. ✓ The better grade will be recorded. ✓ Students will self assess themselves at times to have ownership of their own learning. ✓ NCC believes in the Principals of Learning as set forth by NCC and the other Platte County Schools.
Driving/Parking Procedures ✓ Northland Career Center has parking for Platte County and Sending School students. ✓ Parking passes are sold for $10.00 for the year. ✓ For a student to obtain parking from NCC for the year, they will need four signatures: Student, Parent, Sending School Administrator, and NCC Administrator. ✓ If a student misses the bus, the proper procedure for a student to drive is for the parent to call the sending school to seek permission. When arriving at NCC, students who do not have permanent passes must check in and pick up a temporary pass. Students will NOT bring other students or take them from NCC without proper permission from NCC and Sending School Administration. ✓ Temporary passes are discouraged and driving privileges will be revoked for misuse or violation of the rules. Each student is allowed 3 temporary passes per semester.
Industry Recognized Credentials ✓ NCC students go to college, military, advanced training, and into immediate career employment upon graduating. ✓ Each student at NCC can earn either an employment ready credential or they can earn the student version of the credential that is sponsored by the credentialing agency. ✓ These assessments are similar to End of Course Exams at the high schools, but focus on career ready, technical skills relevant to your student’s career program. ✓ These credentials can earn a student a job or advanced placement in a training program or college professional program. ✓ NCC also has college credit available in many of its programs. ✓ College credit can be articulated or dual credit
Internships and other work-based learning ✓ NCC recognizes that providing relevant experiences to students means providing experiences in the field outside of the classroom/lab/shop. ✓ Students in Health Science and Teacher Professions will have clinical and observation experiences. ✓ All seniors who have met the necessary criteria may choose to pursue an internship their 2 nd semester of their senior year for 2nd year seniors or 4th quarter for 1st year seniors. ✓ Every student each year participate in mock interviews with relevant business and industry from their program area. ✓ NCC relies upon its business and industry partners to be guest speakers, mentors, field trips, and job shadowing experiences…are you a potential partner?
