  2.  Special Education Carry Over from March Meeting  Budget Update  Building Level Questions and Concerns Next meeting scheduled for May 12, 2016 Topics of Discussion are: Policies Update and Miscellaneous Questions and Concerns

  3.  Policy #3890 is in compliance with Chapter 14 of the Pennsylvania Department of Education Special Education Regulations and Standards §14.133.  The Policy provides guidance to IEP teams to address behavior support programs and techniques that are varied and designed to develop and maintain skills to enhance student’s learning.

  4. North Allegheny Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) Level 1 Classroom Management Universal Interventions for all students: • Proactive, preventive Level 2 Positive Behavior Support Plan Secondary Interventions for (PBSP) attached to the IEP some students at risk • High Efficiency • Rapid Response Level 3 Positive Behavior Support Plan Tertiary Interventions for attached to the IEP. The individual students interventions are more restrictive in • Assessment based nature and may modify the student’s • Intense, durable procedures rights during implementation (restraints).

  5. Positive Behavior Support Policy (PBS)is based on the Facilitated Self-  Assessment (FSA) requirements for the Compliance Monitoring for Continuous Improvement (CMCI) by the Bureau of Special Education. Questions include:   Does the LEA have a current PBS policy?  Do student’s IEPs that permit the use of restraints explaining how restraints will be used only with PBS and with the teaching of socially acceptable behavior?  Are personnel authorized and trained in the use of restraints?  Is there evidence in students’ IEPs of a plan for eliminating the use of restraints?  Are prone restraints prohibited and never used?  If a student was restrained, was the parent notified and a meeting convened within 10 school days (or a written waiver provided by the parents)?  Did the LEA complete an updated FBA and Behavior Plan for any student for whom the LEA reported a crime?

  6.  The Gifted Written Report (GWR) is submitted electronically to the parent via email or regular mail.  The School Psychologist contacts the parent via phone to discuss the results of the GWR.  A cover letter is enclosed with the GWR, which will include the contact information for the School Psychologist and a statement that the parent(s) may contact the School Psychologist.

  7.  Qualifying for Gifted Services at North Allegheny School District  Performed by the Gifted Multi-Disciplinary Team (GMDT)  2 prong criteria: ▪ General Ability Index (GAI) score of 127 or higher on an individually administered cognitive ability test OR other multiple criteria strongly indicating gifted ability. 11.  Evidence-based strategies include: ▪ Abandoning “no-nit” school policies ▪ Allowing children to remain in class and participate in school-sponsored activities when live lice or nits (the eggs of head lice) are found on their heads ▪ Notifying parents/caregivers at the end of the school day when findings indicate the presence of a head lice infestation ▪ Educating parents/caregivers about evidence-based treatment options

  13.  Senior pictures can be taken at school on the same day junior pictures are taken in the fall by Madia Photography.  Date for the 2016-2017 school year is scheduled for September 8,2017.  Madia publishes the dates of free sittings prior to the summer break and is able to schedule up to 400 students.  After free pictures are taken, Madia mails proofs to students at his expense. With the pictures are options for parents to choose ‘touch ups’ with prices. These fees are optional.

  14.  Madia has been the NASH photographer for the past several years to keep yearbook pictures consistent throughout the yearbook.  They provide the school with a disc that includes all senior pictures in alphabetical order.  Madia provides all of the club, athletic pictures, and action shots for the yearbook at no charge.  Madia also takes the junior pictures with no obligation to buy.
