Edgbarrow School New York & Washington th – Monday 2 nd nd April 2018 Wednesday 28 th
Flight Information We are starting the trip early to allow time for payment. Consequently, seats have not yet been fully released – we will travel on a direct flight to New York and return from Washington - with BA or Virgin. Airlines are releasing these in the coming weeks. If ticket prices were too high then it may be the case that the trip would not able to happen – however the company we are dealing with is confident that this will not be the case. The initial deposit is non-refundable unless the trip is cancelled either because there are insufficient numbers or because we are unable to get the flights. In this event any deposits paid will be repaid in full.
Year 11 students into Year 12 • You must be attending Edgbarrow at the time of the trip in order to come on the trip. • If you are thinking of going to another College for Further Education then I am afraid you cannot come on the trip. • If you did pay the non-refundable deposit and failed to come to Edgbarrow then I am afraid we would not be able to refund the money.

Walking • It is an energetic city tour, be prepared for quite a lot of walking. • For example - Last year on one day in New York we left the hotel at 8am and returned at 11pm.
A few key points 1.The total cost of the trip is £1500. 2.Although this is linked to the History department it is not an essential curriculum trip. 3.It is a fantastic opportunity to get a feel for the History that you will study. 4.However, it is a purely optional trip and you will in no way be disadvantaged if you do not go on the trip. 5.Consequently, although the school can offer a payment plan, we are unable to offer any financial support to students wishing to go on the trip. 6.Students who are in Year 11 must be attending Edgbarrow at the time of the trip. I have to state that if you paid the deposit and then did not return to Edgbarrow in September you would lose your deposit. 7.At each stage the deposits that you pay are non- refundable . 8. The travel company “FHT” has had a credit check by Carolyn Pyke our Financial Manager.
Essential Travel details – at an early stage be prepared! • Passports – PLEASE BE AWARE THAT PASSPORTS SHOULD BE VALID FOR 6 MONTHS AFTER THE RETURN DATE. • Visas – if you have a passport of another nationality then please let me know at an early stage so that we can check regulations regarding entry to the USA. Particularly if you were to have a passport from one of the banned countries. • UK travellers to the USA are now required to complete the Visa Waiver Programme (VWP) allowing most British Citizen passport holders to visit up to 90 days without a visa. The authorisation via the Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) in required prior to boarding a carrier to travel by air or sea to the US. You can register for authorisation online through the ESTA website at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov and there is a cost of $14. This lasts for 2 years.
Essential travel details contd. • Spending money is student’s responsibility – they will need to buy lunch for themselves, although having a good breakfast is a good idea! • £20-30 per day will be more than sufficient, there will be shopping opportunities in New York and a shopping mall in Washington. • Tipping – this has been included in the cost of the trip and so where necessary when we are together eg. meals and coaches then this will be covered. • Bracknell Forest insurance covers students. • Coach transfers to and from Heathrow airport are included in the cost.
What to do next? 1. Next step - I need a non refundable deposit of £150 by Friday 21 st April. 2. I will let students know as soon as possible after that date as to whether the trip is running and they have a place. 3. A return slip for the deposit was attached to the original letter. 4. If you need a hard copy then I have some at the front which you can collect at the end. 5. A letter regarding the remaining balance will come out to you, but the balance will need to be paid by end December 2017/ beginning January 2018. It is possible to pay in instalments.
