  3. WHAT WE KNOW/NEED TO KNOW ABOUT COVID-19: ✙ person to person transmission is mostly occurring via infectious respiratory droplets ✙ the virus enters a person’s body: ~by large respiratory droplets containing the virus that adhere to the mucous membrane of the person’s eyes, nose, mouth or ~by touching a surface or object contaminated with the virus, and then proceeding to touch eyes, nose or mouth ✙ airborne transmission is NOT known to be occurring in community settings Source: www.canada.ca

  4. MORE COVID-19 FACTS ✙ symptomatic cases of COVID-19 are causing the majority of transmission ✙ many people with COVID-19 have only mild symptoms, especially in the early stages of the disease and can still transmit the virus ✙ asymptomatic/pre-symptomatic transmission of COVID-19 is occurring ✙ incubation period = up to 14 days ~average of 5-6 days from infection to onset of symptoms Source: www.canada.ca

  5. MORE COVID-19 FACTS: ✙ COVID-19 can survive on surfaces from several hours to days, depending on several factors ✙ virus can be easily deactivated by using simple disinfectants Source: www.canada.ca

  6. PLANNING ASSUMPTIONS: ✙ it will be atleast 12-18 months before a vaccine is available – life will not return to “normal” for some time ✙ ”New Normal” will include: ▸ physical distancing ▸ health screenings ▸ physical barriers ▸ hand washing ▸ surface cleaning ▸ face masks ✙ your workplace will experience operational changes – ‘business as usual’ will not be likely in the near future Source: www.gnb.ca

  7. PUBLIC HEALTH MEASURES: ✓ facilitate physical distancing for staff and customers; ✓ ensure adequate cleaning and disinfection; ✓ facilitate hand and respiratory hygiene; and, ✓ enable staff to stay home when ill. Source: www.gnb.ca

  8. QUESTIONS TO PONDER: ❓ Are there areas where people gather in your business? If so, how will you mitigate this? ❓ What surfaces are the most ‘highly touched’ in your setting? How will you ensure proper, frequent cleaning? ❓ Are there aspects of your business/service that you may not be able to continue with due to public health measures imposed? If so, how can you adapt while keeping staff/customers safe? ❓ Can your work, or aspects of it, be moved online? ❓ Are there design modifications that could be made to your setting to better facilitate physical distancing?
