NCCSL NATIONAL BUSINESS EXCELLENCE A W A R D S Introduction  The National Business Excellence Award (NBEA) is an annual award competition conducted by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) with a view to recognize the business enterprises, which have demonstrated excellence in business whilst contributing to the economic progress of the country.

  10. Eligibility  Any registered business organization domiciled in Sri Lanka and has been in operation for a minimum period of 3 years prior to the application date may apply for the award.

  11. Award Categories The contestant enterprises will be grouped into one of the for categories as follows: 1. Extra Large 2. Large 3. Medium 4. Small 5. Micro

  13. Evaluation Procedure  Application will be evaluated on the basis of a 8 point criterion described below.  Applications are reviewed and evaluated by members of the evaluation committee in a 3 stage process.

  14. Evaluation Procedure First Stage - Desk Review  Reviewed by technical panel and preliminary marks indicated. Second Stage – Interviews by the PoJ  The Panel of Judges (PoJ) will conduct interviews of the short- listed organizations. (30 Marks will be awarded by PoJ). Third Stage - Judges’ Final Review  The panel of Judges would make the final selection of winners.

  16. 1. Award for the Business and Financial Sustainability The company which has demonstrated financial stability and steady growth and balanced business portfolio.

  17. Growth The company which has increased the value addition bigger and faster.

  18. Performance against the Industry The company which has constantly outperformed the industry.

  19. Measurement Criteria 1. % growth in EBIT as against last year 2. % growth in EBIT over last 3 years (weighted by the year) 3. EBIT as a % Turnover - Last year & Average for last 3 years 4. EBIT over Assets - Last year & Average for last 3 years 5. NPBT as a % of Turnover over last year and weighted average last three years 6. Customer Concentration = % revenue from top 3 customers 7. Market concentration = % revenue from the biggest segment (either geographical or industry segment)

  20. Measurement Criteria 8. Product concentration = % revenue from the highest revenue earning products 9. % increase in value addition over last year and weighted average last 3 years 10. Rupee increase in value addition over last year and weighted average last 3 years 11. No. of employment opportunities generated during the last year and weighted average last 3 years

  21. Measurement Criteria 12. Ratio of average company ROA against industry ROA over last year and weighted average for last three years. (Based on CSE industry category & company’s) 13. Ratio of average turnover growth of the company Vs. average turnover growth of listed companies in the same industry over last year and weighted average for last three years.

  22. 2. Global Reach Award The company who has grown their breath and the depth in the global market.

  23. Measurement Criteria 1. No. of countries exported and foreign operations 2. Revenue from markets entered in the last 5 years as a % of export revenue/foreign operations 3. Revenue from markets entered in the last 5 years as a % of total revenue 4. % growth in total export/foreign operations’ revenue

  24. 3. Knowledge Integrator Award The company which has excelled in product and process innovation.

  25. Measurement Criteria 1. % of revenue from new products (product innovation) 2. Enumerate specific process innovations and indicate their business impact (Low…. …..High)

  26. 4. Tech-Savvy Company of the year The company which has acquired high impact knowledge through direct investment and other wise.

  27. Measurement Criteria 1. Investment in technology as a % of turnover over last year and weighted average for last three years 2. Enumerate new methods of accessing technology (e.g. alliances, partnership etc.) and indicate their business impact

  28. 5. Capacity Builder Award The company which has made significant capital investment and has created capacity for future growth.

  29. Measurement Criteria 1. Average capital investment (capital expenditure) over last year and weighted average last 3 years 2. Capital investment as a % of turnover over last year and weighted average for last 3 years 3. Amount of foreign capital generated over last year and weighted average for last 3 years 4. Average payback period: a) 1 - 3 years, b) 3 - 5 years, c) over 5 years 5. Planned new employment opportunities for the next year

  30. 6. Award for Excellence in Performance Management Practices The company which has implemented best practices in performance management.
