  2. Mentorship Program Objectives • Match retail food regulatory program practitioners experienced in applying the Standards with programs newly or currently enrolled in the Standards. • Provide assistance, guidance, tools and resources, and recommendations for conducting a self-assessment, achieving a specific standard or achieving multiple standards.

  3. • Two separate Requests for Applications 1. Mentors - Request For Applications to Become a Mentor 2. Mentees - Request for Applications to Receive Mentorship. • Can submit applications to become a mentor and to receive mentorship; however, will only be selected as a mentor or mentee for this cohort.

  4. Eligibility All retail food regulatory programs enrolled in the Retail Program Standards (state, local, tribal, territorial)

  5. Applications Application forms: • Address every section of the application (including subparts). • Be concise, but thorough. • Application will only be accepted via email and in word format. • Letters of support are strongly encouraged and can be sent in as a PDF format.

  6. Applications Review NACCHO’s standard contract language – make sure your agency would be able to sign and return to NACCHO within 30 days of receiving contract.

  7. Budgets Funding… • Can be used for further conformance with the Retail Program Standards. • Cannot be used for the purchase or upkeep of office equipment. • Cannot be used to purchase food or beverages. • Previous participants have sought reimbursement for staff training, field supplies, staff time, and intern/data analyst.

  8. Travel Stipend • A separate pot of money from the awarded amount to all participants to support staff travel expenses to site visits with mentors/mentees and the tentative in-person meeting (up to $1,400 per jurisdiction per event). • Agencies that choose to send multiple staff members and/or anticipate spending above the $1,400 amount to the site visit and/or tentative in-person meeting should budget additional staff travel in their proposed awarded budgets.

  9. Mentees • If number of qualified mentee applicants exceed available funding, there may be opportunities for qualified applicants to participate in the mentorship program without funding. However, they will be given a travel stipends to attend the site visit with their mentor and tentative in- person meeting (up to $1,400 per jurisdiction per event). • There is a section on the application that will ask if your agency is interested in this option.

  10. Mentees continued • The highest-rated applicants, regardless of your answer to the travel stipend option will receive grant funding. • The next tier of applications (i.e. qualified applicants, but not rated high enough to receive funding) may be invited to participate, but funding will be limited to a travel stipends.
