  3.  Dropouts suffer from reduced earnings and lost opportunities; there are also significant social and economic costs to the rest of the nation.  Over the course of his or her lifetime, a high school dropout earns, on average, about $260,000 less than a high school graduate.  The unemployment rate for those without a high school diploma is more than 3.25 times higher than the rate for those with a college degree.

Core 40 with Technical Honors Diploma • Combines rigor and relevance; • Prepares students for two year or four college, technical school, or apprenticeship; • Students gain marketable skills and, in many cases, college credit; • Student can earn both the Core 40 with Academic Honors and the Core 40 with Technical Honors Diploma.

Pathway designated industry-based certification or credential, or 2. Pathway dual credits resulting in 6 transcripted college credits • AND...

  17. Core 40 with Technical Honors Diploma • Complete ONE of the following: A. Any one of the options (A-F) of the Academic Honors Diploma. B. Earn the following scores or higher on WorkKeys: Reading for Information – Level 6, Applied Mathematics – Level 6, and Locating Information – Level 5. C. Earn the following minimum score(s) on Accuplacer: Writing 80, Reading 90, Math 75. D. Earn the following minimum score(s) on Compass: Algebra 66, Writing 70, Reading 80.

  18. Core 40 with Technical Honors Diploma Students must complete a minimum of 47 credits Technical Honors is for student who take Vocational Classes with New Castle Career Center

ISTEP+ Graduation Examination  Algebra I End-of-course Assessment (ECA)  English 10 End-of-course Assessment (ECA)  All Indiana students are required to pass the Algebra I and English 10 ECAs in order to graduate.  Students will have multiple opportunities to take the assessments.  Waiver options are available.  Students are required to take the Biology I ECA but a passing score is not required to graduate.

  20.  Students who earn a score of 3 or higher will receive college credit toward their degree at any Indiana public institution of higher education.  AP participation linked to college completion  Students who score well on AP exams are more likely to earn a college degree  Stronger indicator than GPA and socioeconomic status

  21.  Courses in which students can earn both high school and college credits  IU, Purdue, and Ivy Tech  ACP Bio, ACP Hist, ACP Comp, ACP Speech, Pre-Calc, Chem II, Honors Eng 12 and many courses at NCCC.  Dual Credit Courses are used to meet AHD requirements must be from priority course list  These courses are very cost effective ways to get college credit while still in high school. (Free or $25 a credit hour depending on the class)

  22. Everyone Will Take … English 9 Biology I (some of you will be recommended for College Prep (CP)) PE I & II You will also need a math class. Algebra Enrichment is for those of you that are not strong in math or could use extra help.

  23. Mrs. Hedden’s Suggestions: 1. World History or Geography, Career Success, Health, and Digital Citizenship are required for Graduation 2. Colleges want at least 2 years of a Foreign Language (6-8 credits are Required for AHD) 3. 2 Fine Arts Credits are required for AHD.

  24. Parent’s 1. Check homework – some students may need to do more at home studying 2. Set a consistent time and space for studying 3. Check progress frequently (online Parent Portal) 4. We offer tutoring Mon-Weds after school till 4:30pm 5. Review and help your child select classes 6. Get involved with their postsecondary preparation 7. Call or email me anytime!
