Student Voices... “Motivational mentorship has created a safe space for students to speak freely about their views on a variety of topics around people they are comfortable with. It provides students with a sense of authority in the school through our mentors Ms. Cay and Ms. Riles. If we voice a problem regardless of it’s type, they will make their best attempt to fix it. Students are able to speak about not only what is affecting them personally but also what may be bothering them in an academic setting. The mentors and peers work together to fix any of these issues. Other than aiding in adjusting any problems and having group discussions, motivational mentorship is also an academic resource. It is a space in which I often go to work on any unfinished homework because of the comfortable surrounding. Due to the friendly environment it has created, I find it much easier to complete tasks and ask questions around people I have become accustomed to and am comfortable with.” AG, Senior “Motivational Mentorship is an inspiring club for all. I have always felt comfortable and accepted in this club. It provides me with a safe and nonjudgmental place for me to speak and give my thoughts on issues close to myself. Motivational Mentorship also provided me with a place for me to go for advice for any problems I had. I attend this club to learn and become a better person as a whole. CG, Junior “I first attended MM for the free food, but I recently started going for the kind people and conversations.” PM, Junior “I feel comfortable in this space because Ms. Riles and Ms. Cay are very approachable and easy to talk to. Also, the environment in the office is very relaxing and also I see many people that look like me and that makes me comfortable.” IF, Senior “I come into this space because it’s a very calming space for people of color. I can be with people with goals similar to mine.” Z, Junior “I come into this space because I feel very comfortable to talk about any topic. Also, I can be with people of color that have goals that are similar to mine.” KL, Junior
