Programme Details 2 half days Tuesday/Thursday afternoons Replaces one school subject Leaves Fridays periods 1 and 2 free for another course/private study/work placement 2.5 days per week Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday afternoons and all day on Thursdays Still take 3 school subjects Catch up classes on Friday morning

  18. Programme Details Most courses run from August to May Pupils share any concerns about the course/transport etc with PT PD. Regular contact between PT PD and Vocational Co-ordinator-progress reports/attendance/attitude/performance/ concerns monitored and fed back to Pupil Support staff Year Heads and Parents. Courses do not run on school holidays or in-service days.

  19. Foundation Apprenticeships Foundation apprenticeships are a work-based learning opportunity starting in S5. Pupils spend time out of school at college or with a local employer, and complete the F/A alongside their other subjects. The qualification takes two years to complete and is linked to one of six key sectors of the Scottish economy, so young people are getting industry experience which will help them kick-start a successful career in their chosen field.

Applying for a course  Limited Places available to each high school.  Each course will have certain entry requirements.  Options Interview with Pupil Support – pupil chooses 5 subjects and writes preferred vocational course.  Information Evenings (for pupils and parents) at various colleges in April time.  Pupil Support team and Year Head will decide most suitable candidates in order.  May sometimes be placed on a reserve list and when a place becomes available manage to get on.

What are they? • Same level as Highers • 2 year programmes to gain an industry recognised qualification. • Open to pupils starting S5 in August. • One of your subject choices. • Currently 13 frameworks offered by Glasgow and Paisley colleges. • Complete some units of an SVQ. • Combine school, college and work placement. • No cost incurred by students.

Eligibility Criteria? • Students are expected to have an interest in developing greater awareness of the industry with a potential desire to pursue as a career • Students must be capable of working at Level 6 (Higher) over S5 and S6 • Some Frameworks require these to include English and Maths • Programme lasts 2 years. No Foundation Apprenticeship qualification or part qualification if participants leave early
