Maryland Horse Discovery Center Project
Goal : Develop a statewide network of neighborhood equine education centers at existing stables. Offering folks of all ages an opportunity to learn about horses and horsemanship in a welcoming and knowledgeable setting.
Research : Md. Center for Public Policy Survey 45% of Maryland households interested in horses 15% somewhat or actively involved 30% need to be engaged--as spectators, volunteers or riders
Horse Pals Affinity Group 1,300 members--monthly farm tours and equestrian activities but hard to engage them, more of an online community, need local opportunities for active engagement
Horse Discovery Centers many doing this work already gateway stables 770 licensed stables 68 interested volunteer program 45 applied 5 workshops 35 certified in 15 counties
