QUESTION FOR YOU HOW MUCH WATER DOES A HORSE NEED PER DAY?
WATER HOW MUCH WATER DO HORSES NEED? The amount of water required will vary depending on the individual horse but can range from 25-50 litres per day for an average size adult horse (around 5 litres per 100 kg bodyweight per day). The volume required will increase in hot weather and additional water may need to be provided after exercise. Horses will have increased water requirements in certain other situations (e.g. lactating mares). QUESTION FOR YOU WHY DOES IT TEND TO BE CERTAIN PARTS OF CLONDALKIN, TALLAGHT, DARNDALE, COOLOCK ETC WHERE HORSES ARE KEPT IN ESTATES?
EXAMPLES OF QUESTIONS WE GET WHY DO YOU FEED HAY TO A HORSE?
QUESTION FOR YOU FROM WHAT AGE CAN A HORSE/ PONY BE BACKED AND CAN A BIG HORSE BE BACKED?
QUESTION FOR YOU WHY DO PEOPLE ABUSE HORSES, PONIES OR DONKEYS?
QUESTION FOR YOU WHY DO PEOPLE WANT DONKEYS IN DUBLIN?
QUESTION FOR YOU HOW MUCH SPACE DOES A HORSE NEED? The general guide is about 1 acre per horse for grazing, and they should have a companion, as they are herd animals, so more space would be needed. This also allows them to run, exercise, roll on the ground, blow out and have fun.
QUESTIONS WE GET ASKED "WHEN I BUY A HORSE AND HE WON'T MOVE FOR ME, I HAVE TO WHIP HIM HARD TO GET HIM TO MOVE". If you had the right training and skills, you could manage to move your new horse in a less stressful manner, without fear. The existing owner of the horse should have been handling the horse as part of their training. That would help.
QUESTIONS WE GET ASKED WHY CAN'T ALL THE HORSES THAT NEED TO BE RESCUED BE PUT INTO ONE BIG HUGE FIELD? The field would would need to be massive. There are thousands of horses in trouble. It would also cost a lot of money and time to look after them. Also, most people don't want their horses to be taken away. They think they are OK where they are.
