English Course of Study 3
Regents vs. Honors or AP Courses • Level of analysis and independent reading is significantly higher in Honors/AP courses • Reading skills are a strong indicator of student success within these courses • AP Language 11: Helpful for all disciplines; focus on rhetorical analysis • AP Literature 12 AND Senior English Studies (SES): Excellent preparation for College Level English 4

6 English Regents & AP exams English Regents AP (grade 11) (grades 11 & 12) • Graduation requirement • AP Literature: May 6 th (unless using CDOS) • 12th grade • January 21st • 3 hours administration for ENL, classified, & 12 th graders • AP Language: May 13 th • June 17th administration for most 11 th graders • 11 th grade • 3 hours 15 min.
English Honor Society 7 Required service: Students are: • Peer Responder 10x per • Eligible in grades 10-12 quarter OR • Must have an A average in • Peer Responder 5x/ Honors/AP at the end of quarter, & perform at the previous year OR an Poetry Coffee House A+ in Regents level (PoCoHo) OR • Write for Phoenix or • Recommendations (English Indian Ink teacher + other) • Personal statement See Mrs. Ferguson or visit the English Honor Society webpage for more information.
Extra-Curricular Options 8 Peer Responder Program • Students in upper grades are paired with middle school students to receive extra help with assignments in any course—emphasis on English • Peer Responding is a requirement of membership in the English Honor Society • Details regarding the Peer Responder Program are available in Room 265, through Mr. Koondel, the adviser to this program • EHS candidates should sign up to be a PR in September of their eligibility year See Mr. Koondel in room 265 or visit the Peer Responder webpage.

College Essay Workshop Series (3 days) Continuing • SCA sponsored, 75 seats in Summer • Session 1 required, TBA 2020 • Sessions 2 & 3, during weeks of July 6 th and 13 th • Meant to supplement classroom support given in grade 12 English classes 12
Continuing Initiative 13 Rising Grade 7 Summer Reading Support • Two sessions at the Manhasset Public Library • Dates TBA • Opportunity to meet with MMS English teacher to discuss the summer assignment • Translators available
