According to the survey “Growing Up In LGBT America” conducted by the Human Rights Campaign…
How can we work together to ensure that our school is a safe and supportive environment for all?
Positive examples from Centennial: What we, as students, have noticed…
Positive examples from Centennial: - Teachers set clear expectations at the very beginning of the year (about bullying, intolerance, anti-LGBTQ language) - Teachers include LBGTQ topics in class - Gender panel at Centennial - T.A.G. group discussion about LGBTQ relationships
5 Tips for creating a SAFE & SUPPORTIVE Learning Environment
#1: Stand up against anti- LGBTQ language Sometimes, we are looking to you to help us take a stand
#2: Show your support through your actions -‑ Be available to talk -Keep an open mind -Set a positive example by practicing acceptance of all students
#3: Display your ALLY sign in the classroom and explain what it means
#4: Show support for transgender students -Preferred pronouns/ acceptance of gender identity -A student’s name may be different than what is listed on the attendance sheet -Use gender neutral names in story problems, role plays, and examples in class
