Labour Force LABOUR FORCE Hawkins Infrastructure: Project Manager, Construction Manager, Site Manager, Quantity Surveyor. Subcontractors included: Drainage – Higgins Levin PE Welding and Testing – City Care Pump Station Civil Works – Bailey Civil Pump Station Mechanical and Electrical – Max Tarr Stream Crossing – GP Friel Directional Drilling – Universal Underground
SITE CONDITIONS WEATHER CONDITIONS Very wet weather and storm events May, June and July, The remainder of the project timeline the weather was fairly good. SITE ACCESS, LOCATION EASY OR DIFFICULT Of the 7km of pipeline, 6km was either on the road shoulder (of a country road) or in the laneway. Many issues with traffic management and the need for constant Hawkins Site Manager attention. GROUND CONDITIONS Varied greatly both vertically and along the alignment. Some sections were clean dune sand which made for unstable trenches for which shields were required over 1.5m deep.

Human Relations HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUES Need to improve local sub-contractors understanding of HSE requirements onsite. Ensure that Method plans and risk analysis being followed onsite. Improvements were identified and immediately put in place. HSE attitude was turned around quickly EMPLOYEE TRAINING GIVEN The pipe manufacturer, IPLEX provided a Powerpoint presentation and practical training of how to handle, store, transport and joint PE pipe. They also frequented site to ensure there were no major issues and provide support where necessary. ANY SUBCONTRACTOR ISSUES A lack of experience in large scale drainage and the ability to troubleshoot problems.
