Laramie County Community College Operating System An operating system (OS) is a collection of software that manages computer hardware resources and provides common services for programs. The operating system is the system that runs the computer. Application programs, like Colleague require an operating system to function. The most well known operating system is Windows. RMUG 2014 11

Laramie County Community College Database A database is like a house for the data on a computer. A relational database is a database that has a collection of tables of data items. Data in a single table represents a relation. RMUG 2014 12

Laramie County Community College Operational Data Store - ODS ODS a separate repository of data from one or more source transactional systems. Level of detail is the same as the transactional systems. Data is organized for reporting needs rather than transactional needs. A snapshot of data captured at a given point in time RMUG 2014 which is updated on a regular interval. 13
